Keith Jarrett Live at Fenice - Venezia 19/7/2006
Voto:
Such a beautiful testimony, Frantz. I've never had the fortune of seeing KJ live, but I could sense a bit of the magical atmosphere that Jarrett knows how to create in concerts thanks to the DVD "Live in Tokyo" which was gifted to me some time ago. The "physical" way Jarrett experiences music is extraordinary. It's not just the screams, the groans... it's the expressiveness of his face that is most astonishing. But perhaps... if KJ occasionally laid off some of the diva attitudes it would be a positive thing, right? But then again, maybe it’s all part of the game. Cheers, JoP

The return of the Mullah is eagerly welcomed with this superb pianist whose fingers dart like butterfly wings across the keyboard. A cornerstone of jazz virtuosity, where skill transforms into art and poetry. Just listen to the Latin rhythms of "Gal in Calico" or the poignant, dreamlike atmosphere of "Love Is Here To Stay" to realize it. A round of applause for the Mullah! JoP

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Richard Strauss Oboe Concertos
Voto:
@ sfascia: I'm glad to have enriched your extraordinary sfascesco vocabulary with this "ascoso" :) @ Massimof: thank you, really. This performance by Douglas "Dougie" Boyd is very heartfelt, lived, I would almost say. I chose it because the association with Mozart seemed really fitting. But there’s also the equally beautiful one by Heinz Holliger, in a CD entirely dedicated to Strauss where, in addition to the oboe concerto, you can also find the "Metamorphosen" and "Death and Transfiguration". Thanks a lot, see you soon, JoP
Ludwig van Beethoven Concerto per pianoforte e orchestra n.3 in do minore op.37
Voto:
Massimof, the concert review for oboe should be out around here soon :) BlackLight, I noticed you also mention Mozart's K 466, already reviewed on DeB by Grass in the performance of Vladimir Ashkenazy... I have the beautiful version by Jarrett of that concerto: that's also one to write about, sooner or later!
Ludwig van Beethoven Concerto per pianoforte e orchestra n.3 in do minore op.37
Voto:
It's always a great pleasure to read about Ludwig, and with this, the piano concertos are making their entrance into DeB. Of the Beethoven corpus, my absolute favorite is perhaps the fourth, with Alfred Brendel at the piano. However, Glenn Gould's performances of the first and the "Emperor" are also exceptional. Speaking of the Emperor, I know of a performance with Radu Lupu, the pianist featured in this review. Greetings to everyone in the gallery :) JoP
Amon Tobin Live in Forte Marghera 17-07-2006

I also love Amon Tobin's Permutation, which is definitely the one I know best. From that album, Bebel Gilberto also drew for her beautiful version of Samba da Benção, featured in "Tanto tempo." Great report, Solomon.
Chick Corea Now He Sings Now He Sobs
Voto:
Great album, a super classic of acoustic Corea, reviewed really well here by symbad. I've been re-listening to the old Armando Antony Corea for a while now, especially in "Duet" with Gary Burton. One of the dozens of reviews to write sooner or later! :) Hi everyone, JoP PS Thanks, Wanderer, you're too kind!!

Echoes of Nick Drake in the caverns of the Red House Painters, you say? This review is worth it, and from what you say, I believe the album is too. Noted, thanks. JoP
