Beautiful review, Stefanet, for a colossal album. In cases like this, it's better to let the ratings speak for themselves... Bye ;))

Thank you all for the comments, which I completely agree with ;)) And I immediately add that... perhaps... I judged this album a bit too generously... 4.5 would be the right score, I think. As for you, Stefanet, what you say about the "shadow" of Christy Moore is very true. From the large Bach family to Ned Oldham, it’s just as you say: the music is full of similar cases. I warmly return the greeting to Mullah, an excellent new entry here in DeB. Finally... special thanks to sfascia carrozze for the adjective "xanaxiano"... ;)) You don’t know how much it made me smile... "Xanaxiano" might be the best adjective (from 20 pills 1 mg, though, and here you can see my doctor's soul...) for this album!!! Anyway, Ella is right, dear sfascia carrozze... sometimes "raw nerves" do good... they are "electrifying" ;)) Bye ;)

I have a strange relationship with the little I know about Vecchioni... It attracts me and repels me at the same time... A kind of "odi et amo." I believe I agree with Grass on this. I just wanted to thank WProf for the quote from "L'ultimo spettacolo" right above me... which I find truly wonderful ;)) Bye, JoP
Bruno Maderna The Oboe Concertos
Voto:
Hi Hal ;)) Yes, you are absolutely right that in this case the soloist and the conductor are on the same level as the composer. I believe this was precisely the "compositional" message that Maderna wanted to convey, at least through the first and second concertos. On the other hand, the score often includes the indication "inserire ad libitum"... so the composer gives full freedom to the performer and the orchestra to "feel" the score as they see fit. The third concerto, however, carries a more philosophical message, at least according to my listening experience. For this reason, I think the third concerto is far superior to the other two. As for the conflicting relationship with contemporary music, Hal... I experience it sometimes too, believe me. After all, I also listen to this kind of music only on certain occasions, when I'm in the "right spirit." But there are contemporary music albums that I return to often... which are the ones I've already dedicated and would like to continue dedicating some de-reviews to ;)) I take this opportunity to thank everyone for the comments (thanks!!!), and in particular Lazzaroblu for remembering Gary Bertini, a great conductor. Hasta luego!!! JoP

I don't know the album, dear wrecking ball, but the haiku is the poetic form I prefer... so... curiosity is suitably ignited. Well done. A very personal review (as always), engaging, and the "More Info" link is very, very fun. Best regards, JoP

Dearest and esteemed wrecking expert, you cannot imagine how happy it makes me to read that you too are in possession of this remarkable work by the good Ned Oldham, which I am currently soaking in as well, as it possesses significant energizing potential, which is never a bad thing, even in the musical realm. Thanking you for the trust and generosity with which you always support me, I am pleased to take this opportunity to point out that the esteem and admiration from the reviewers are entirely mutual ;)) Best regards. Very truly yours, JoP

Claude Debussy Preludi per pianoforte - Libro 1

Stunning review, I am speechless. But perhaps it’s better this way, to create that reverent silence necessary for listening and for the "enjoyment" of this Debussy, which nourishes the soul with a truly dreamy and transcendent ecstasy.
