You're not entirely wrong, dear AmedeoMinghi... ;) Probably because it was the wrong story, even though back then it seemed right to me ;) "O Pato" on the other hand is a hilarious song and thankfully has nothing to do with "heartbreak"! Bye ;)
Angelo Branduardi Branduardi canta Yeats
Voto:
Magnificent review that I wanted/needed to savor slowly. Also because I must admit that my knowledge of Branduardi is extremely limited. However, Grass's words encourage me to explore this album further. Especially for the “bucolic” character of the album. Nothing to add about Yeats. A great. More controversial is the relationship between music and poetry. And here there are various examples that could be discussed... From our Gianmaria Testa reading the poems of Pier Mario Giovannone in "Il valzer di un giorno" to Leo Ferré's "Rimbaud"... Hi everyone ;) JoP

I really liked the review. A wonderful write-up from a "peeping Tom of anime," as an editorial said some time ago. I have to say that the "human" dimension of Kurt Cobain has always been much more "intriguing" to me than his musical one. Fundamentally, he was a sociotropic, I believe, someone who needed others to be happy. The problem was that "others" weren't among his audience. He was someone who perhaps didn't even know who he was. Or maybe he didn't exist at all. Who knows? Anyway, it's curious to note one thing: why was it that among the great musicians of the past, no one committed suicide? Why was no one "crazy"? I seem to remember only Schumann among the great "psychopaths" of music. Today, however, not even music provides protection. From Cobain to Ian Curtis. Kudos, Massimof.

Thanks for the comments, guys ;) Grass, you're absolutely right about Stan Getz's "intoxication" back in the day (besides being musical, it's said that our Stan's intoxication was mainly due to Astrud herself...). Astrud is another figure that truly deserves to be "rediscovered," with her voice so delicate yet at the same time so airy and dreamy. It's a real shame she has been somewhat forgotten these days! I also join in the chorus of praise for this beautifully classic review! It’s always a pleasure to see this attention to the music of the great north, which truly has many wonderful pages to offer. And I take this opportunity to make a proposal: after the Finland of Sibelius, will someone also de-review the Norway of Grieg? Great josi_!

I love your comments, great the review on "Infected," lovely the "alcoholic" advice, Trell ;)

Trellheim, I haven't told you yet but... after your comments on the Zemlinsky review, I have become a fan of yours ;) Mr Nobody, I'm not sure if the cover hides some "cryptic" message or if it’s just "lines and currents" (like in other ECM covers). That's how it seemed to me. Ah... since we're talking about "alcohol," I'd like to add my two cents: if you get a chance, try the Dalwhinnie, the "gentle spirit" of the Highlands (but watch your wallet...) Hello everyone ;) JoP
Gustav Mahler Sinfonia n° 5
Voto:
"A profound, cathartic, and disturbing experience." How can one disagree with these words about the music of Gustav Mahler? And I agree with you, Hal, that Mahler was misunderstood. Perhaps too grand, too vast (the Symphony of a Thousand!), too original to be fully appreciated. As for me, this symphony stands among Mahler's finest gems, alongside the first symphony (for example, interpreted by Pierre Boulez) or the wonderful "Kindertotenlieder." Your comment about the beginning in death and the end in life is beautiful as well. I would like to add that this symphony is like a kind of inverted glove: it has the soul on the outside and the body on the inside. It turns appearances upside down at the expense of the truth of man, that is, feelings, interiority, spirituality. I wholeheartedly subscribe to Grass: a review rated 5 is extremely generous.
