The Dream Theater are 4 musicians with balls of steel, who play wonderfully. They were born, as a band, to play in the best possible way, not to play in the most innovative way. What drives them is the pursuit of a completely different sound project from that of the progressive bands of the '70s. Genesis, Yes, Gentle Giant sought "reaction," through a fusion between classical music and the anarchic music of jazz; the Dreams and others I won't mention to avoid making this post lengthy pursue "citation," obedient reference. Later, if you want, I will be clearer. But let's talk about the Dreams now.

P.S. It's so nice to talk with you, Giorrrrgio. But respond to the fire, okay? ;-)) Let's show that we know how to use this site!!

Regarding DeBaser's dots: they are nonsense. Period. End of the discussion about DeBaser's dots.

NO NO NO it’s not true, they are not unmistakable: half Rush, half Metallica (the nu-metal ones, the worst). They abandon the Europe sound AFTER Awake. A sprinkle of Tool. Duran Duran here and there (Lifting Shadows Off A Dream; the bridge of "Scarred" is practically "Save a Player"). References bordering on plagiarism to Frank Zappa, Al Di Meola copied from the first solo to the last; GENESIS, in every track. In Octavarium, they completely plagiarize two Muse songs (Stockholm Syndrome, Hysteria). The title track is a cut and paste of stuff ranging from Shine on You Crazy Diamonds to Supper's Ready by Genesis, to Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull. Either they do it on purpose, which I believe… or they do it on purpose because they understand that the culture of 90% of their fans (not Giorrrrrgio) doesn’t go back further than 1992, the year I&W was released. That said, extraordinary performers. A political 7 and 1/2 for all their albums.

acc... do you really want to know? but a little touch of mystery is an essential component of my charm and vanity :-) anyway, the passage where I write --> "sometimes the quotes made by the Dreams are nothing short of cryptic, and denote a musical erudition that doesn’t annoy, but rather delights the palate of the most seasoned listener. This aspect is, in my opinion, even more important than their extraordinary virtuosity" <-- is something I genuinely think and feel about Dream Theater. as sarcastic as my entire contribution may be, I am truly delighted by the huge number of sound references they embed in their tracks. particularly in this album: I find it objectively decent and nothing more (bear with me, I own about 80 CDs from progressive musicians and bands, I can hardly feel anything down there anymore!!) but I swear that when I listened to it for the first time, I went through my entire life and spent a most pleasant evening. and then, you see? I rate it 3, or 7 and a half.

And I reiterate: I don’t criticize Dreams for their technicality (let me emphasize: an absurd critique if directed at a group of... progressive rock!), but for the painful drop in inspiration they’ve experienced since the dawn of the "New Millennium" (oops... I quoted it too :-)

giorrrrgio... did you not catch the general irony of my "very kind" intervention? Should I write in big letters THAT I'M FED UP WITH ALL THESE SPASMODIC REVIEWS OF DREAMS? My message is not an attack on young Marco: I repeat, God bless him for not listening to Tiziano Ferro. It's naturally addressed to all of you, so we can have a good laugh together about how much of a "gem" albums like these are in the musical landscape!! :-)))) In fact, why don't we continue the game? Which bands would you add to the list?
