@Stoney: I insist on the freedom of choice that, fortunately, we have compared to other "worlds." Besides the possibility of living by spending 80% of existence "at the mercy of arrogant and ignorant individuals" (but you can also find decent employers, you know!), there is the option to work privately either alone or with others, the chance to change countries, and sometimes there’s the opportunity to rely on the support of parents or to choose a job that takes less time and energy while sacrificing a bit of extra money. There's even people who make a living playing football or painting. Here, this is possible—or rather: the conditions exist to attempt what is not available elsewhere.

@Stoney: from what I understand, we pretty much do the same job, but I really can't relate to this tragic sense of lack of freedom that weighs on you. On the contrary, I consider myself fortunate because there are people doing much worse than me and you, both in our "free world" and outside it. The concept of "working to survive" has existed since the dawn of humanity. I don't mean to glorify our so-called democratic system, but it's the "least bad" option available, and I'm convinced of that. For sure, there are more opportunities "to express one's personality" here than in Cuba.

@Stoney: well, those who don’t have a job complain, and those who do complain too (but with 9-10 hours in front of the computer, you can write on Debaser, just like me, so it’s not that bad). I know that the ideal world would be one where we do nothing from morning till night and live like princes, and maybe one day we’ll get there. For now, though, let’s settle for living in this amendable “free and capitalist” world, hoping to improve it as well.

@Enbar77: I don't think he was referring to that, also because it has nothing to do with the freedom to leave one's own country.

I don't know what methods you are referring to, STONEY, I just know that if I want to leave Italy, no one can stop me, and this applies to Americans in the USA too.

I instead know a lot of former South Vietnamese refugees who fled the regime by escaping on boats and were literally rescued at sea by our ships sent specifically to save them in 1979 (notably, the PCI was reluctant about this humanitarian mission). Today, they are all well-adjusted and integrated, facing many of the same problems as a good portion of Italians, of course, but they have never regretted communism (or at least the version of communism they experienced).

But is that the Michael Jackson from Thriller on the cover?

Great album, although I prefer "Faith" and "Disintegration," if not even "17 Seconds." The review isn't bad, although it might be a bit too "tribal."

But couldn't they remain unpublished?
