Diamanda Galas live @Auditorium - Milano 27.11.06
Voto:
I saw her in October 2000 in Bologna: she hypnotized me. Indeed, she’s not for everyone; Diamanda is almost always excessive, even when she sings seasoned blues covers, but that’s precisely one of her greatest qualities. An artist who deserves more presence on this site.

Great review even though I didn't particularly appreciate the final digression and a 5 is exaggerated, at least on my rating scale. However, with "high-level easy listening" you accurately describe not only "Bluebeard" but, in my opinion, the whole album, with its merits and its flaws. I'm not a die-hard fan of CT, but if it's true that connoisseurs/purists think this album is terrible, then they are mistaken: pop of this level seems to have been very rarely released in the 90s.

Indeed, "Shadow of Doubt" and "Starpower" are very valid: strange melodies, sharp songwriting, and sung by Kim Gordon, the only one in this band with the voice to pull it off. Then ups and downs. It's a shame especially for the concluding "Bubblegum," a real piece of junk.
The Birthday Party Prayers On Fire
Voto:
In blues-influenced rock, there have been at least two main branches: one, excessively popular, derived from the Rolling Stones, the other, less frequented, derived from Captain Beefheart, of which the Birthday Party are worthy heirs, especially regarding this toxic, violent, and visionary album, their masterpiece. The review is nothing short of ambitious, too much for me, as I don't believe in the equation "review=work of art" but rather in "review=essay."

"The aftereffects of the amphetamine from last night... wow, a junkie. wow, an anonymous labeler..."

I haven't been drinking; it might just be the aftereffects of last night's amphetamine... It's not that I would consider the first two Duran albums as epoch-making masterpieces of the twentieth century, but if someone wants to listen to something pop, "easy-listening" to hum in the shower that isn’t exactly completely obvious, then I would definitely suggest them.

I've never listened to them, but I have no trouble believing that this album is rubbish; they were finished a long time ago. However, "Electric Barbarella" was a nice track. Furthermore, I agree with what Sanjuro said about "Rio," and I would also say that their debut "Duran Duran" from '81 was even better. Finally, I don't think your advice to prefer other new romantics bands is spot-on; there are more valid tracks in the first two albums of Duran than in the entire careers of Spandau and Visage. The review could also be entertaining, but it doesn't talk about music.
The Doors The Doors

Why is it a blues record? Acc... it's hard for me to say, also because I'm not a musician and I can't talk about it in terms of chords, measures, and so on. I can only say that I felt it was depressed and "black." But how do you frame this record if not as blues?
The Doors The Doors
Voto:
@JimMorrison: No, in fact, Jim Morrison has nothing to do with it, I would find "L.A. Woman" ugly sung by anyone. Anyway, you're right, I'm not a musician, I just go by ear, but if "L.A. Woman" isn't blues, then Eric Clapton is doing Cyberpunk.
@DaveJonGilmur: My judgement on the album "L.A. Woman" is not influenced, believe me, by personal dislikes, but it's just a (arguable if you want) musical opinion. The Doors have managed to come up with a few good songs in their career, but not on that album which (for me) is just to be thrown away entirely. But why are you surprised? Has it never happened to you to hear a bad album from start to finish?
