Diamanda Galas The Divine Punishment & Saint of the Pit
Voto:
I was working on it too, but it’s better this way; I would never have managed to write a review of this level. The only thing to add is the dedication of these works to his brother Dimitri, who died of AIDS that very year. This CD, particularly "The Divine Punishment," is my favorite among the ones I own by Galas, an expressiveness and rage truly unparalleled. It's astonishing how the singer manages to craft an "heretical" work by borrowing some verses from Leviticus. In the end, the conclusion one can draw from "The Divine Punishment" is one of total pessimism (Leopardi by comparison is optimistic): GOD EXISTS BUT HE IS EVIL!

Probably the only thing that Liberian children received from the money of Pavarotti and his friends is a new kalashnikov.

These atrocities are not only artistically reprehensible but sometimes they don't even come close to achieving the purpose for which they were created. Try going here: Rai.it - Homepage and you will find a reconstruction of the shocking management of the money from Pavarotti & Friends 1998.

Instead, I really like that Jamaican interlude with the rumbling in the background precisely because it's unexpected and disarming. It adds a touch of the grotesque (or perversion) to a piece that was already a hallucinatory journey in itself.

So much energy and so much charm, but also a lack of ideas and a lot of monotony. At times, they remind me of Devo (or vice versa?). In any case, I quite like them.

They may be a bit pretentious and formal, but this is a beautiful album full of creativity and charm. Rating 3.5/4-

Great record: "Sheets Of Easter" sounds like rock played with a techno logic (or techno played with rock instruments), "Each One Teach One" sounds like an 80s metal band trying to play Devo...incredible!
The Sound All Fall Down

The only thing I have from them is "Jeopardy," a great record. "I Can't Escape Myself" is one of the most beautiful new wave songs, on par with "A Forest" or "Love Will Tear Us Apart." I haven't heard much good about this one, and if I buy anything else from them, I think it will be the second album.
