Clive Barker Hellraiser
Voto:
It's not the quality of the film itself, objectively not of high level, with glaring directing mistakes (like the dolly of a monster being pushed by the crew on screen), but one cannot help but be fascinated by the original variation of the classic theme of "selling your soul to the devil." Cabal, which also features David Cronenberg as an actor, has the same flaws and merits as Hellraiser: the story is magnificent!

On the other hand, it's the same fate that specialized magazines like Weird Tales reserved for the solitary man of Providence, shortening his stories to make them more comprehensible to the masses. Lovecraft, bitter, kept the aforementioned copies with all their corrections. The stories that have reached us should be the complete ones.

It was never released in theaters, only in the DVD - VHS circuit. The makeup of the fish-men is also great. Read the story and you'll understand that it's impossible to recreate Lovecraftian atmospheres. It's a minor film compared to the classics of the genre, but it's an excellent movie when compared to the many B movies out there.

Dagon was produced by Brian Yuzna with very few resources. It is an adaptation of Lovecraft's story "The Shadow over Innsmouth," but I wouldn't feel comfortable giving it more than 3 stars. The setting in a Spanish fishing village is excellent.

A classic by Carpenter is Escape from New York, but my favorite remains the remake of The Thing and this In the Mouth of Madness. Chilling is the Lord of Evil, come on, who reviews it?

One of Carpenter's peaks. Often this film is mistakenly regarded as a transposition of a novel by Stephen King; in reality, it has little to do with the Maine writer. Indeed, it is as close to Lovecraftian work as it has ever been conceived. The escalating violence and the figure of Cane are distressing.
Steven Spielberg Schindler's List

It is for the memory dear Poletti, that memory which will vanish along with the protagonists of the Holocaust. Future generations will have no one to tell them what really happened, but they will be able to watch this film or The Pianist or Life is Beautiful and, perhaps, who knows, they will think it was all just fiction. Find me a single film about the Holocaust that isn’t rhetorical. As a user whose nickname I don’t remember said: you missed another opportunity to remain silent...

Stanley Kubrick The Shining

You didn't mention that the film is based on a novel by Stephen King. King has always criticized Kubrick for not being faithful to the plot of the book, but in reality, the director sought to emphasize the element of madness present in Torrance, while King focused on the supernatural element present in the hotel. An interesting fact: in the novel, the famous axe is replaced by a croquet mallet...
