Dream Theater Made In Japan - Official Bootleg

A firm point when it comes to technique? I have my doubts... I'll name the first ones that come to mind, Steve Lukather's Toto, as a band that technically has nothing to envy from DT, quite the opposite... I'm not one to say "the Theater sucks" because, objectively, they don't. But it's been too long now that they've been dabbling in parallel projects, almost always negligible, collaborations, and, indeed, this reckless number of live albums. Instead of wasting time, they could perhaps focus more on writing a great studio album, but probably instead of committing seriously, it's much easier, and much more profitable, to do the bare minimum and scatter themselves across many useless commitments from an artistic point of view.

ZZOT, if they want to return to their roots, should strive to create work on the level of Images & Words or Awake without disturbing the classics of rock. To be credible, one must be inventive; it's not enough to simply rehash what has already been done. These are just commercial moves, CDs for fan clubs and nothing more. From an artistic standpoint, a cover is worth zero unless it's reinterpreted from scratch with the ideas and soul of the artist, but, objectively, that's not the case with Dream Theater. With these albums, they are no example for anyone, believe me.

I want to start from the assumption that you’re a fake, because a 15-year-old girl for her first review wouldn’t analyze something she hates, but definitely something she could speak well about. After this preface, I want to say to you: "but what the hell are you doing, is it possible you have nothing to do?"

Honestly, I fail to see the point of the review: it's quite easy to criticize and, therefore, tear apart an album that dares to relive the magical atmospheres of a milestone in rock. This is the classic commercial move for dull fans since by now the Dream Theater, or whoever manages their money, has figured out that even a fart in a diminished seventh would send their loyal followers into ecstasy. And it's precisely on this limited view of the whole that Petrucci & Co. have been playing for quite some time, amidst official live albums, official bootlegs, and side projects.

Ah, Stanley Jordan, Mr. Tapping with 8 Fingers... in other words, when the guitar is played like a piano...

Wow, if this album isn’t acrobatic, with dozens and dozens of overdubs and various effects on the guitar. It also gives the impression that any guitarist could play it blindfolded with their hands behind their back... Anyway, if you want to start, I’d say that Jeff Beck might be the ideal...

Deus Ex Machina... I'm from Bologna and they sing in Latin... look for my review on their masterpiece De Republica, here on debaser...
