I really see the Deftones better aligned in a post-hardcore world alongside bands like Helmet, Korn, Quicksand, and Orange 9mm. Emo core barely shines through in the last album, and they feel too distant from Get Up Kids, Rival Schools, and Promise Ring, especially in their use of guitars (with an indie/punk cut for these bands, and a metal cut for the Deftones).
