Great, I missed that... I still remember the afternoons spent as a kid at my friend's place who had the Philips CD-I CD-i - Wikipedia an epic fail like few others as a machine :D but there were the conversions of Don Bluth's laser games, super difficult but absolutely beautiful. I always thought Space Ace was better; the death animation in Dragon's Lair got boring after the 200,000th time :P when the cartoon was superior to the rendering of any machine, 20 years ago...

Joe, it seems you’re talking about Michael Bay instead of Cameron… are you sure you understand anything, even just a little, about science fiction? You mention Rossellini and neorealism, Kubrick, Sergio Leone, all talented people but who have nothing to do with sci-fi (aside from Kubrick, who has done something in that sense). It’s a bit like saying that City of God sucks because Hitchcock would have directed it differently…

If you mention "Natale a Miami" as a "masterpiece" of Italian comedy, it seems you have no clue about what Italian comedy is or has been. It's not that you have terrible taste; it's that you don't have taste at all.

beautiful, the most faithful to the original anime and easily the most entertaining at the expense of depth... Oshii here is beautifully forced to follow orders from above, but he will make up for it heavily with the sequel.

@47: I agree, certainly between the 90s and the early 2000s we went from games inspired by cinema to cinema that draws inspiration from games; interactivity has increasingly become the direction to take (at least for certain genres), and undoubtedly 3D is the first significant step in that direction. @Larrock: I appreciated Brazil, however it is sci-fi that is definitely low on action, which leads to a significantly lower production cost. For me, Avatar sweeps away the new Star Wars trilogy in one fell swoop; Cameron accomplishes in one film what Lucas can barely achieve in three (and to be honest, only the third deserves/can deserve a viewing). Of course, that’s just my opinion. Comment 128 is beautiful.

But are these at least a bit brutal? If they are brutal, they can be trusted.

Michelle Rodriguez has to play that part; in anything else, she would be miscast. Weaver is great as a scientist, but seeing her with an M60 at 60 years old would be hard to believe, and it’s not like another actress would have done better in her place. And Panzer Dragoon is Saturn stuff to me :P And it's not that the aesthetic choices and the vehicles owe anything to video games; it's video games that owe everything to Aliens and Abyss first and foremost. Avatar doesn't innovate, but if you're desperately trying to find flaws, you end up losing sight of the fact that it's one of the best sci-fi films of the decade.
