Thank you all :) @ajeje: I actually expected someone to mention at least Spirited Away or Castle in the Sky. The problem is that the evaluation of these masterpieces becomes, at a certain point, a matter of personal preference. Personally, I think Laputa is a notch above The Enchanted City, but that's just my opinion and there are dozens of arguments that can be brought up in support of one film or the other. As for the son’s film, unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to see it; Eastern critics haven't praised it as much as the works of his father, but I can't deny that I'll take a look at its DVD release.

But what did Fenni mean? In my opinion, a bad movie, all smoke and no fire. Along with Sunshine, the second flop I've picked up this month... I liked the other review better.

Amazing for its time (’86 if I’m not mistaken), questionable today. The technical excellence is indisputable, yet it faces a plot that is significantly toned down compared to the manga, and an excessively laconic narrative. Many argue that these are just details and that sacred cows of the genre are now untouchable classics. I don’t want to engage in controversy, but for me, that’s not the case. Substance comes first. And Akira’s feature film is far from perfect. Good, at times excellent, but imperfect.

What the hell do you mean by "polished"? Lights/frames/set designs/costumes too well-done? Too much hotness? Actors too good?

Oh, how cruel towards Striscia... sure, it’s trash, it always has been, but it doesn’t really represent the worst of Italian TV, "programs" like Buona Domenica wallow in the shit of Italian style ten times more. And long live the girls, the half-naked (actually 99% naked) showgirls don’t offend my intelligence (actually they lift my spirits), while programs like Lucignolo do. I’m not saying that just showing a lot of female skin makes a show watchable, but what you call the commodification of women is for me definitely less offensive than the commodification of ignorance and cynicism, which are instead encouraged by other shows.

a record from my teenage years, and one of the best by the GD. Nostalgic and contextualized rating.

No, it was already a cult before. Now it’s a bit less so because the new generation has decided what is "cool."
