Matteo Garrone Il racconto dei racconti - Tale of Tales

Saw it last night, astonishing... very far from Hollywood fantasies, grotesque and caricatural characters wallowing in a brew of dark realism and despair. Brutal I believe is the perfect definition. A rare gem in Italian cinema.

I haven't seen Man of Steel, Snyder is inconsistent but not absolutely terrible as it's often said... unlike many, I don't think it's wrong to modify Superman to make him something slightly different; the original character is too bland and perfect to be interesting. To be honest, just the title horrifies me, but there’s not much to see in 3D this week... I’ll watch and revise.

After 2 minutes, I was afraid it was going to be one of those movies... after 20 minutes, fortunately, something becomes clear and the film surprises, not so much in the underlying plot, but in the way it is developed. There was a risk of having a second half full of clichés and boring, yet the film moves steadily on its path with coherence without becoming overly sweet. Definitely worthwhile. Great review.

I've read terrible things about it, everywhere. Skipped it in the cinema; I'll watch it when I can comfortably at home.
Tom McCarthy Il caso Spotlight

Great review, solid film and an exceptionally solid cast. There's not much to add, the review says it all. I really appreciated the excellent summary made by the director, the attention to detail, and the sustained pace. Four and a half for me.

I, on the other hand, saw Youth back then and promised myself to watch this one too... then it ended up in the backlog along with another two dozen films. I thought about giving it a look the other day, but instead, I ended up watching Spotlight. I’ll see it next week and let you know.
George Miller Mad Max Fury Road

I believe it's the only movie I've seen in theaters twice in the last 20 years, thanks to the fact that: in my area, it's in its original language; I don't pay for the cinema; it's one of the few films that truly benefits from being in 3D. Along with Big Short, the best surprise of 2015.

Nice review, I didn't know about this stuff, it's always interesting to see how hitting rock bottom isn't always the limit; you can also scrape the floor... and someone will buy it.
Babak Najafi Attacco al potere 2

After the abominable first film, we really needed another dose of copied-and-pasted nonsense from any action movie of the last 30 years. I haven't seen this one, but the poster says it all.
