I preface by saying that I consider A Scanner Darkly a masterpiece (but the fact that it's based on one of the most complex books in the genre helps), I found this film mind-blowing, even though I believe that was precisely the point. It feels like a philosophical monologue that is at times intriguing and at times dreadful; the problem for me is that not all the characters we encounter have anything really interesting to say. Technically, it does without the polygonal grafts and retouching of A Scanner Darkly, but the result fits the product well. Interesting, right? But be prepared to roll your eyes a couple of times in front of certain discussions...
