I would like to respond to mjoler: I am a girl and I love black metal, not just because "dany filth" is cool. I am attracted to the unhealthy aspects and the atmospheres it can evoke. Anyway, women are not just interested in the aesthetic side of things...

Hi Aniel, maybe you're right, but to classify an album like that, it would have taken millions of genres, so I opted for simple rock.

beautiful review. but this cd is the epitome of what Norwegian black metal should be.
Rotten and visceral, but also majestic and celestial (lol it rhymes)
this work stands at the top of all black metal albums and is 3rd in my personal ranking of all time
Absolute masterpiece
No album, except obviously "Autmn Leaves" by dsima Euphony, can transport
the listener to an otherworldly dimension.
Children Of Bodom Hatebreeder

I am currently listening to "Hatebreeder," the second album by Children Of Bodom and also the second work I’m experiencing from this Finnish band, following the good "Follow The Reaper." First of all, from the reviews, I was expecting a decidedly more aggressive album, especially considering that "Follow The Reaper" is regarded as the band's least aggressive record. In reality, I don’t quite agree, as I find "Hatebreeder" to be very light and melodic. More inspired than the following chapter, but not more aggressive. In my opinion, the band absolutely does not sound like melodic death metal: the riffs clearly have a power metal foundation, as do the baroque keyboard embellishments and the solos, which are very neoclassical and indebted to guitarists like Malmsteen. There are some death metal riffs, but they only appear sporadically. The only extreme element in Children Of Bodom is Alexi's vocals. Paradoxically, I find them closer to bands like their fellow countrymen Nightwish (the riffs and keyboards are very similar) than to melodic death metal bands, such as Dark Tranquillity.
That said, I do not want to downplay the album; in fact, I consider "Hatebreeder" to be a fresh, melodic, engaging, and well-produced work. So far, it’s the best effort from this Finnish band. Tracks like "Children Of Bodom" are absolutely exhilarating.

An absolutely exceptional album, outside of any cliché. Definitely softer and more psychedelic compared to "Mandylion". Anneke reaffirms herself as the voice par excellence of metal (and beyond).

so... I'm replying a bit to everyone:
@fidia thanks for the compliments... yes, I listen to all metal, but I'm particularly passionate about this genre. I'll try to listen to the LPs.
@Big D: I've already added Maledia to my waiting list, thanks for the tip!
@Fabbiu: Yes, but especially those from The Silent Force.
Thanks to the others for the constructive comments.
