I was actually referring to things that have been developing quite a bit in recent years, like the "saga" of August Underground (especially Mordum)... horrible and terrible stuff, but definitely the most extreme. Here’s a review, both of Mordum and the first episode: IIS 10.0 Detailed Error - 404.0 - Not Found

Are splatter films on a leash? Mmmh, I think the most extreme stuff from every point of view is being made in these years.

@cptgaio: Nothing to say about the spectacular nature (even though there are plenty of spectacular movies out there), but even the Dream Theater are "spectacular" musically. True, it's a story that has concerned a bit of everyone, but I really can't stomach the populist tone, and when stretched out in the pretentiousness of its exhausting duration, my engagement was very low. Just my opinion, but if you make movies that slow and long, either you have something truly interesting to say that stimulates the brain, or you're guaranteed to fall asleep.

(I specify that the live at Massey Hall just released is, if I'm not mistaken, from '71)

minor episode? I'm not an expert on Young, but it might be my favorite. Just a song like Ambulance blues (but of course, that's not the only one) would be enough to demonstrate its value. As for Young's choices, one must say that he's been a genius in making incredible blunders: the live album that just came out, the one at Massey Hall (which I haven't heard yet), is receiving enthusiastic reviews from everyone. And regarding the lack of live performances of his songs as proof of the album's lesser value: Will to love, one of Young's most beautiful songs ever (for me, but also for him, as he seems to consider it his masterpiece) exists, as far as I know, only in one version, that of American stars'n bars because he had/has the belief that he would never be able to recreate that kind of atmosphere. At least that's what I know.

I would have been even meaner. Even before Once Upon a Time in America, it always seemed to me to be the most overrated Italian film ever. It has some great moments when it describes peasant life, but overall it's pompous, heavy, rhetorical, and above all, boring. Before I watch it again, I’d shoot myself in the leg.
