or maybe you are referring to "nothing is" (which seems to me like a great album)...

ghemison, if that's the case, I read that even when he was admitted to the hospital where he died, on the admission forms where he had to indicate his address, he wrote "Saturn." Anyway, it's official, I'm cutting ties with zione; I stumbled upon a review of amari (the amari, damn it) and he rated that one 4 and Atlantis 3. But how is that possible :) @Odra: of course I was a bit of a clown, clearly Kind of Blue deserves much more than just a passing grade. Personally, I wouldn’t give it (more than) 5; in a fairer world, Cymbals would have the fame of Kind of Blue and Kind of Blue would have the fame of Cymbals. @Muffin: I think heliocentric world n.3 doesn’t exist (even if there's a legend about it).

Alright, maybe I exaggerated for A Love Supreme (I still prefer Atlantis anyway), but as far as Kind of Blue is concerned, I didn't exaggerate at all; it's one of those jazz records, to use the hated word, overrated. Certainly beautiful, but in my opinion, there’s definitely better out there.

yes yes, the record of life, if it makes sense to say it, that 4 is like a huge blasphemy, now to atone for it go give 3 to a love supreme and 2 to kind of blue.

I miss black mass and picture of infinity, how are they? By the way, just for laughs: I know the official titles are about 120, but I recently read that with various recordings it could go up to around 800, I don't know if it's true, and I would indeed like to know if the famous book by Robert Campbell (the one that covers anything recorded) is still available. To tell you just one title among many that I could list, I would suggest you quickly get the 1973 live album Cymbals, which features perhaps the greatest blues I've ever heard, Thoughts under a dark blue light, small lineup, ultra-late-night stuff, stunning. It’s not even particularly difficult (compared to other things); it’s found along with the album "Crystal spears" (which is much more "out there" but I like less) as "great sun ra lost albums." I believe it's now quite easy to find, since it seems to have been reissued recently.

Anyway, counter if you've banned him you've been a bit impulsive, let's lose the new ones like that, uolterstarman. @dolly, out of curiosity, who are your favorites by Sun Ra?

I apologize, my vote doesn't make any sense because I got confused with Macbeth, um. I miss this.

the album of my life. Sublime. frankie says that Sun Ra played random solos; I imagine he knows that the platinette of Saturn was an arranger for Fletcher Henderson, who played everything from funk to blues, baroque music, and even doo-wop, besides having highly esteemed musicians like Gilmore and Marshall Allen. Anyway, I've been increasingly convinced that Sun Ra is the greatest musician who ever existed. Just my personal opinion, and of course, it's open to discussion. But for now... I still don't agree that the suite is the standout piece; in my opinion, the greatly extended tracks (especially Mu and perhaps even more Yucatan, Saturn version) are nothing short of exceptional, even if I don’t see any funk in such narcoleptic stuff.

from the series "we loved each other so much," a gem for all those who were there, a video of our Basentini in action (and in case he reads this, I thank him for having introduced me to people like Phineas Newborn back in the day):
