@always to Marco:>>>but ajeje..listen a bit...can there be anyone else besides you in this world?<<< of course there can be, I'm just expressing my impression (which is widely shared), I'm not a union representative. I'm not here to forbid you from feeling whatever the hell you want.
>>>>before Malmsteen, the figure of the egocentric guitar hero who plays the good and the bad times didn't exist<<< aside from the fact that it's not true, Hendrix was a guitar hero in every sense, John McLaughlin was a guitar hero, Duane Allman was a guitar hero, Jimmy Page was a guitar hero, and so on, but then what merit is there in being the first "egocentric guitar hero" (which isn’t even the prestigious title of egocentrism, since the world was already full of self-absorbed guitarists)?

@Marco: well, because I bet you like everything, in music, in art, in literature, in cinema, everything beautiful, all the same. The fact that something disgusts me is "a lack of humility," it’s being "critics." But if you don't want critics, what are you doing on a site for critics? >>>try to be less totalitarian<<< like, just when I was about to annex Poland? >>>>on the other hand, I've never heard of a person capable of playing the guitar who despises Malmsteen just like you do...a little humility, come on<<< come on Marco, most of the guitarists I know actually despise him. A little humility, you don't think your knowledge exhausts the world of guitarists. Anyway, it’s obviously not just a matter of arrangements, it’s a matter of horrible phrasing (I wrote above what I mean), it’s a matter of total lack of imagination, it’s a matter of total lack of understanding of genres (he’s convinced that playing a pentatonic at excessive speed means playing blues). In short, he has nothing worthwhile to say, and he says it very badly too. Musically, he’s a clown.

"One must have humility when listening to music and critiquing it, you have not even a shred of that humility": ah, and to express a critique about a musician I’ve listened to for a long time and who now disgusts me, explaining and justifying why (something you haven’t done: evidently you have nothing to say and hide behind a superior attitude, pretending to understand everything) is a lack of humility. As for the "closed-mindedness" coming from someone who only listens to Guitar Hero, AOR, and hard rock, that’s a compliment. Among thousands of musicians, Malmsteen is truly one of the last charlatans. Oh, I also enjoy some embarrassing stuff, but I don’t pass it off as culture (Culture! Malmsteen!)

There’s no point in appealing to political correctness. Just as you criticize other musicians if you feel like it (and you have), this site is all about that. After all, I don’t have biases and I don’t throw out opinions without knowing what I’m talking about; I’ve listened to his music quite a bit, and it’s crap. If someone then gets upset about opinions on music on a music review site, what can I say? All the better.

But why Jetto, is Malmsteen your father? This isn't a music site and music reviews where judgments are made, is it? And isn't it a judgment to say Malmsteen has done great things, fools who don't understand it? I mean, help me understand.

@Marco85: the carelessness of a kid when I talked about what exactly? The arrangements? The fact that he wasn't the first to make a (ambitious) classical attempt in rock? The phrasing? Let's be more precise please. As for Zappa, I said that he is one of those I think of when considering the concept of a complete musician, not that everything he says is true and right. I know he spoke well of Malmsteen, I couldn't care less. Respond with arguments to arguments. @Spacca: thanks for clarifying, of course, that was exactly what I meant :)

"ajeje, you're heavy, I've already given you the answers, learn to respect opinions different from your own": and why, have I perhaps insulted you? I've replied and argued, I've asked for an explanation, and all you could do was bring out a bit of condescension that comes from who knows where, saying that I would be closed-minded and therefore wouldn't understand the genius of this idiot, without adding anything to the two little sentences I've thoroughly contested. It seems to me that you are the one who doesn't know how to handle a discussion.

In the meantime, I asked you for a hint of motivation on why you consider Malmsteen a complete musician (when I think of a complete musician, I think of someone like Frank Zappa) and a modern composer (and here it's laughable, between Elliott Carter, Luigi Nono, Arvo Pärt, and Stockhausen, there's Malmsteen), and you couldn’t provide even a shred of explanation in ten lines, other than saying that I would be closed-minded, without knowing on what basis. You could have even mentioned that I am of Hungarian nationality while you were at it, dear Gian Filippo (oh, you've decided that I'm closed-minded without even knowing what I listen to, and I've decided to call you Gian Filippo).

And in any case, prejudices are the judgments of those who have not listened. I have listened. (...ā€œclosure of backgroundā€?!)

I didn’t shoot from the hip; I got into the details. What do you mean by "musical preparation"? Being able to read sheet music? Harmonizing in thirds? Playing an A minor harmonic scale? Anyone can do that; shall we make some comparisons between Malmsteen’s arrangements and someone with real musical training?
