At this point, I would really like to see your review too! Yes, I reviewed the vinyl, even though I have both "the moon is in the gutter," which has beautiful lyrics, and "in the ghetto," which, despite the nice arrangement, clashes quite a bit with the rest... a "blind lemon Jefferson" would have fit much better, don't you think?

A friend of mine who also read the review made the same observation... I confess I haven't heard Cohen in a long time, but I was mainly referring to the singing style, which is definitely different, rather than the song itself. In fact, I misspoke. Mea culpa.

I swear I didn't mean to offend you... anyway, I don’t know, I've heard so many shredders that I really don’t care about empty technique anymore; it's an endless challenge... then you say that only Vai can do certain things, I’m telling you, if you don’t already know them, check out Francesco Fareri’s videos on his website, which you can easily find, or Rusty Cooley. If you like prog or people like Satriani, I think you might really enjoy Phish, at least their early albums Lawn Boy and Picture of Nectar. Anyway, check out Fareri's videos, and maybe we can talk about it again, okay? Bye.

Well, they surely won't leave a mark in the history of music, but their lightness (a rare quality in a world full of people who act all high and mighty like U2 and Oasis) I really like. Of course, their albums are like jokes that make you laugh once, but "Cara ti amo" kills me...

Lord, the anonymous person was me writing from another account; I thought you had understood. Trey Anastasio plays in Phish, a prog band that's not very well known in Italy, but in the United States, they are legends who have performed some of the most crowded concerts in rock history (we're talking over a million people). He doesn't have Petrucci's technique, but he's still a virtuoso who comfortably tackles dozens of styles, from funk to fusion, bluegrass, blues, metal, bossa nova, calypso, and compared to Petrucci, he's a stratospheric improviser. Ribot is perhaps my favorite; he plays with dozens of bands, including Tom Waits and Les Claypool, and he's incredibly original. McLaughlin, I thought, needs no introduction; he's one of the greatest jazz guitarists of all time, often playing in a trio with di Meola and Paco de Lucia, and he's the founder of the Mahavishnu Orchestra, one of the most technically advanced bands ever. Denison with the Jesus Lizard, a hardcore band with great technique, although not a shredder, has an endless imagination. Dave Pajo is very well known, if only for having played in Slint, the first post-rock band; he's a guitarist with an absolutely cerebral style, very close to classical music. Vai, I know perfectly well; I don't have everything, but I have Flex-able, Sex and Religion, Passion and Warfare, Alien Love Secret, Fire Garden, Ultra Zone, and I've seen the various G3, and I have a ton of Zappa. I believe even he and his mother would assert that he's a bit of a clown (but have you seen the faces he makes when he plays?). Immense technique, no doubt about it, terrifying. But his music boils down to circus numbers, and aside from the Zappa-like oddities and the beautiful harmonies, his music is a glass of fresh water—pleasant, but if you take away the distortion, it's just pop, even in the best moments like "For the Love of God" or the hilariously over-the-top Juice.

I didn't know Ieratico... but it's a great album, and a beautiful review. And then, I don’t care much about the musicians' consistency if an album is like this. I don’t care about Pink Floyd singing Money while Mason collects Ferraris; I like their music. I don’t care if Maradona is a... questionable man; I like him as a football player. And this album is greaaaat.
