Stefano, as I've already said, and Caz has understood it perfectly, when I listen to music I only judge the music itself, and not the life of the musician at hand, nor do I fall under the charm of the cursed hero, like a girl told me when she found out I love Heroin by the VU. Then I honestly can't understand what deep concept lies behind "divored by vermin," but I don't mean musically either… then there's the folklore which is all there and entertains me, there's the group where the singer shits on stage in the middle of the concert (really! I can't remember the name but if anyone knows please tell me), the Wasp with their exquisite setups of fetuses and raped nuns, the group that picks someone from the audience to screw the girls in the band, but for me, it's all a hoax; it's a circus that amounts to no more than a Britney Spears ballet, artistically speaking...

Look dear Caz, I personally completely separate the human side from the artistic one (I really don't see myself as a moralist, and I'm not getting into the NoirDesir issue; television is always ready to show tears and preach), and I like various metal bands even though I'm not an expert. As I said before, I'm a huge fan ("huge" would fit well in a Cannibal text) of the Swans, but I don't think Mike Gira could become my best buddy; however, I find his music magnificent, and that's enough for me. I can't stand midgets and cheerleaders, concerts with mist and laser beams, idiots moving around, the umpteenth hip-hop video where you always find: gaudy supercar, a sober 2-kilo ring (in case it wasn't visible) on the finger of the singer, a huge swimming pool-jacuzzi, and a mega mansion—even though I do appreciate the buttocks, artistically speaking. This isn't me holding anything against the genre. Without MTV, these people would disappear; nobody would care about Marilyn Manson. I mean, for a laugh, it's fine; I have an unhealthy passion for thrash, and there's a website dedicated to the worst album covers in music history that I'll recommend if I find it again, but finding something more in there, I don't know... by the way, Glenn Benton doesn’t mutilate children but does mutilate animals...

Sorry dear anonymous, or Mauro (is that what you’re called?), may I ask, being a Sardinian myself, what bothers you about our beautiful little island?

Well, I don’t know how much irony (intentional) there is behind projects like Cannibal Corpse, or behind idiots like Deicide. I know... Burzum is only known to me by reputation, but from what I’ve read, he seems like a pretty spaced-out guy who hides behind Viking nonsense of racial pride the emptiness of his thinking: but musically, I don't know him, so I won’t express myself. But I know Cannibal, of whom I even have the vinyl of Hammer Smashed Face at home, and I find them almost ridiculous; their arrangements are a mishmash of clichés that are quite boring, and their music is filled with the typical "commonplaces" of the genre. Then you say that gore is an essential part of the genre, which makes me smile, probably producing the opposite effect it’s supposed to have... excuse me, but it feels a lot like a Halloween party for thirteen-year-olds. Or maybe I just don’t get it, and you don’t seem stupid to me—I read your review of Rain Dogs, and you don’t give me that impression. But then can you explain to me what you find appealing?

I don't listen to Biagio Antonacci, but I do listen to Klaus Schulze, and also the much-loved Squarepusher by York: there are people who were doing things from Kid A and Amnesiac 20 years ago, with ambitions and results that were clearly superior...
