Speaking of flattery, I remember a concert broadcast by Planet Rock for the release of Linea Gotica where there was approximately this exchange between the interviewer and Ferretti: "Ferretti, when the critics talk about you and mention a sung mass, a monumental record, how do you feel inside?" - "Look, if they said we suck, it would be the same thing."

Damn, today you're breaking down (well, as usual :-)), states of agitation is a big piece, I’d say that the lyrics alone don’t do much, they need to be listened to. I won’t start posting examples of Ferretti's poetry because I’d never finish. Just know that I’ll hit you in your weak spots like Kenshiro, huh!

Yes, very interesting, I've been looking for them for a while but I can't find them on p2p. Right, samplez?

I should have expected the intervention of good old Josi... well, I did make it too simple, but come on, we understand each other, please let’s not start again;-)

I still miss him. I'll watch him. Yesterday I watched a movie with gay samurai.

I deeply appreciate Ferretti's integrity as a person, who has always spoken his mind, sometimes in a very provocative manner. Knowing the group and the characters very well, I am practically certain that the name didn't want to have anything sleazy about it: it’s worth mentioning that when they first broke into the important positions on the sales charts (even reaching the top position) with that ugly album Tabula rasa, they decided to disband. Often I haven't shared his views (the latest one on the referendum, with him fully aligned with the positions defended by the right), and sometimes I admit I haven’t even understood them, because I don’t have a background (excuse the awful word) solid enough to follow Ferretti in all his reasoning. But I’ve already told you I care about the music, and to me they truly matter.

By the way, the Minghioni fans gather from the other side too; I know quite a few of them. What can I say? I shouldn’t listen to them if some silly kid shouts "Spara juri"? I share the sentiment with Odradek; the quality of their songs makes me overlook certain contradictions (and as I said, they have never glorified communism). I'm aware of the sad current aftermath, but those are more tied to the human side, not related to monetary issues like with the Kennedys. I’ll add something that really shocked me, knowing about the "meaningful lyrics":-), almost all of them are improvised on the spot.

You know that, in fact, they didn't give a damn about the public, right? At concerts in the eighties, they put barbed wire between themselves and the audience, which represented the fact that their desire to be on stage was independent of being appreciated. There’s nothing more anti-sycophantic than that; moreover, the audience that expected easy slogans was often left quite traumatized by Ferretti's literary cut-up, and they didn’t understand a damn thing: you know, the Area di caos that didn’t care and laughed? The same attitude. For heaven's sake, Caz, look beyond the name: it was designed to discourage listening!

That said, in my opinion, a piece like Emilia Paranoica is great precisely in a musical sense: you told me you saw the Velvets as "technical," in the sense that they knew how to use music to create certain atmospheres: I believe this is the case (and they do concerts with Cale and Wyatt).

no no fuck, they were anything but virtuous, but musically they are much more refined than you think, even when they had the drum machine and the guitars scraped clumsily, definitely more akin to certain new wave (Suicide, maybe even Pere Ubu?) than to punk. I didn't know that phrase, but knowing Ferretti, I think he wanted to assert a musical identity of his own, without having to "bow" to models (and they are original precisely because they only reference them marginally): in fact, their music is very European, linked especially to expressionism, rather than a specific musical movement: their way of doing punk is the opposite of stupid punk, even when it's just two chords, it’s very deliberate, and in my opinion, it shows.
