Dissolve That That Is...Is (Not)

For now, this is what I know the least about Montgomery (aside from the flying saucer which I haven't heard yet), but the little I have listened to I really liked. It's difficult to sort through Montgomery's discography and say what’s worth more or less (personally, at the moment, my favorites are MAYBE the one by Dadamah and Under Glass by Hash Jar Tempo), also because he plays without wanting to prove anything and yet has a consistently minimal approach: guitar, sometimes voice (and what a voice, long live the disgruntled baritones) and little else. I mean, he's great, since with practically nothing he always manages to be interesting, and to use a swear word, "deep." If someone likes one Montgomery record, there’s a serious risk they'll end up liking everything else too.

hahaha! But no, come on! It was just an example, better a minor album from Morphine (that is, just one) or some Germano stuff :) Actually, it has nothing to do with it, but "Cure for Pain," yes, and "The Night" definitely deserve it, especially "Cure for Pain," which is a must.

I would say that (barring any change of mind) the impression I've had, if you know the group, is similar to what one might feel about the lesser albums of Morphine. In other words, always well played, always beautifully arranged, but with pieces that are definitely less memorable compared to their earlier works. Perhaps a hasty assessment, but I had appreciated Lullaby much more right from the start, even though many considered it an unexceptional album; for me, there were indeed some gems in there (like Pearls or In a Shell). I'm ready to change my mind (in fact, I just listened to it again), but this is my impression: while it's not bad at all (Germano is too good to make a bad album), it doesn't truly excite me.

but for me 4 is worth an 8, a rating I’ve given to other records like odra (don caballero 2, Bark Psychosis, etc.). It really didn’t convince me. Maybe I’ll reconsider, but considering my passion for the germano, I think it’s easier to err on the side of excess.

aged decidedly poorly. It has a somewhat original sound, but I really find them heavy and indeed, may the Lord have mercy on me, "brainy."

It may be a matter of perspective, but it's not exactly a great favor to an artist to pass off even their minor works as gold. Speaking of female singer-songwriters: Jane Siberry has made her complete works (or almost) available in mp3 on her website until September, and it’s definitely worth it.

for me it’s really a letdown. A 6 out of 10, in my opinion it is clearly his worst. Monotone and by far the weakest melodically. It’s saved because he simply can’t make trash with his class, but I was definitely expecting many more surprises from the collaboration with Gira.

Excuse me, where should I look to see your face? In the user profile or will I find you in the aesthetics manuals?
