what merits do they have in bringing rock back to its original essence, of course.

But what merits do the XTC have, who are more baroque than most prog bands? In fact, they're practically a prog band if we don't consider the length of their songs! Ah Dave, sorry, it's fine to talk, but if for every band you don't know you make up that you've already heard them (and it’s not the first time)...

"The attempt to bring rock back to its original essence is, in my opinion, pointless and poorly executed. There are only a few rare cases that stand out (Xtc, Husker Du, The Replacement and a few others that I can remember) because, what does this sentence mean? Come on."

Holy shit, do you realize the nonsense you're spouting? Now you're putting the XTC, one of the most baroque and perfectly polished bands of the last twenty years, alongside Husker Du in the category of groups trying to bring rock back to its original essence? You see? You hear the name of a band and pretend to know it. XTC is a pop band, baroque and clean (born from the new wave, by the way), which you've now mistaken for a two-chord noisy band with a distortion pedal. Holy shit, just admit it when you don't know a band.

The undeniable question would be whether Symphony X are one of the most brilliant examples of contemporary cultured music?

"The 'technique' and the 'aesthetics' in rock were born with progressive, when it became clear that every attempt at originality was in vain." What a huge load of nonsense. Progressive didn't arise simply because there was no longer the possibility of creating original things in rock. "Metal, and even today an example of cultured music, is precisely thanks to bands like Symphony X." Oh well, very cultured indeed. Dave, I’ve already told you: you made your theories before listening. You know just a couple of punk albums and say absurd things that make no sense whatsoever simply because you don't know. If Symphony X is your example of cultured music, we’re in great shape (not to mention the dimension of your confusion).

Yes, senmayan, but maybe if you had read the discussion you would see that it doesn’t focus on proving that Rapsody and Symphony X are the same, but on something entirely different. No offense.

I said that bands like the "clean" Symphony X or Rhapsody (which, well, for you will represent a very different genre but it doesn’t change the point) mimic the "clean" bands of the 70s, (so I'm not talking about all prog; from the 80s onwards there are several bands that have a lot of prog or are still "clean" that I like and that are original), in the same way that there are noisy bands today just like there were 30 years ago (and many of them are original). It’s unclear why for you the new "clean" bands should be better and more original than the noisy ones.

"I don't listen to husker du anymore, I just said that in their genre they dominate and there's an abyss between them and other bands" big bullshit. I like them, but I heavily prefer other bands, and they're way more different from each other than your "very different" symphony x and rapsody.

Hey Dave, what the hell are you saying, please. Because, according to you, weren't there already groups that played "clean" (like Genesis or Yes, for example) and those that played "dirty"? (like Faust or the Velvet Underground?) And why should those noisy ones (noise isn’t just punk or grunge: there’s kraut, there’s psychedelia, there’s garage, there’s stoner, and a lot more) be any less original just because there are bands that imitate 70s prog with more distortions and less taste?
