I follow, for wit and irony, the comment by Symbad, which I fully endorse. I also emphasize, uxo, and I repeat, that you should push yourself a bit more. The review, while nice, risks being too didactic. Following this, of course, the subsequent double live should be recommended. Great things!

The album, in fact, is one of the most complete and convincing works in all of Metheny's output. It's also true that even after a hundred listens, the composition "First Circle" still sends chills down the spine, and that the rest, including "Mas Alla," define a style that for several years will remain characteristic and unmistakable. I haven't understood whether Uxo, while writing, held back emotionally to avoid influencing the judgment of the work, or if he simply couldn't express all the love he clearly feels for this piece. What a shame, because with a greater decisiveness and fewer fears and constraints of "form," it could have been a "more beautiful" review.

Actually, I don't contest "James" and "The Bat," two remarkable pieces (especially The Bat), but I simply don't want a masterpiece like the mentioned piece to be forgotten. In de-mocrazia there should be space for everything and everyone.....; anyway, these are trifles, little things....., right? :)

.......I just couldn't hold back.....: have you ever listened to "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" on "Wired"? I think I know at least five or six versions of it, but this........

Thank you for the suggestion of "Where were you," Pierpaolo. I bought "Guitar Shop" a few months ago now, but even though I didn't mind it, I couldn't remember anything that struck me deeply. I'll try to fish it out of the sea of music and listen to it again.

Yes, okay, uxo, the recommended tracks are a matter of taste... but how can you NOT recommend "Are You Going With Me?" For a longtime Metheny fan (are you one?) it’s absolutely essential! Just that track alone is worth the purchase of the album! (mvho)

Ah... I almost forgot uxo: I had already mentioned it, but I hope you know about the existence of a DVD that captures the incredible live impact that this work manages to evoke. To be honest, I've found a second one (recorded at the Montreal festival), but it’s a slightly shorter version, so it's not complete. However, this edition features a stunning version (very long with an intro from Pikasso guitar and trumpet) of the beautiful "Are You Going with Me?". Both releases seem to be easily available.

Thank you Uxo for your flattering remarks, but above all, thank you for being able to appreciate this masterpiece so intensely. I don’t quite understand what I should do to come down from my Olympus to do what you’re suggesting. Please give me some clearer clarification. Those who know me well know that deep down, I’m a bit foolish. Thanks (again).
