I saw Holdsworth twice: abroad in '79 and in Italy in 2004. In both cases, I was astounded, indeed overwhelmed. As a guitarist, I can only bow down. But even compositionally and, consequently, musically (harmony-melody-rhythm), I don’t think I could do otherwise. It's true, perhaps there's little "heart," but you can't have it all. Nightwalker said it well: a UFO.

@Dylan: it was an old "fixation" of Emerson to insert (sometimes for no reason) these comedic pseudo-western episodes here and there because they amused him a lot. Here, perhaps, as you say, it creates a moment of "breath" in these dark atmospheres. Elsewhere, especially on Tarkus, always with a playful spirit (Are you ready eddy?) and on Trilogy (the sheriff), irony finds its place... . Bye

I will add, at the risk of being intrusive, that this review was initially written to express a "musical" opinion in contrast to a similar review drafted with slapdash, disrespectful, and shameful manners stemming from absurd and misguided phobias and/or personal obsessions of a gentleman who, as far as I can see around this forum, has been heavily boring for quite some time for these reasons. Sometimes he even has the audacity to try to be funny, but as a comedian, he is worth nothing. As a reviewer, he is negligible, as he speaks little or nothing about music and as a creator of supreme boredom, he is truly unbeatable. For my part, I am satisfied with my "more than normal and standard" if the alternative means having to suffer from frustrated cravings for protagonism. This person had the shamelessness to say more about the album in the post above than in the "review" devoted to it.

It's amusing to see contradictory commentators looking for flaws, desperately grasping at straws to dismantle things larger than themselves.
