Prefab Sprout Steve McQueen

Congratulations on the choice, it was inevitable. Sweet melodies but not too sweet, that become yours, mine, of all those who have the pleasure of listening to them. I must say, apart from Steve and Jordan, the latest The Gunman And Other Stories isn't bad either, pop with a deliciously western flavor. It's a shame Wendy Smith has left us...
Wings London Town
Voto:
It's enjoyable, pleasant, well-played, and overall in a good mood just like the usual good old Paul. He has been underrated, but so has Lennon. The fact is they were like the right leg and the left leg. Together they went far, alone they only went a few places, pushing too hard in one direction or another. As a solo artist, in my opinion, Harrison gains more.
Blondie Parallel Lines
Voto:
Bogus are not bad either, the Blacks, the band that James formed after the Contortions: a bit calmer, more compact and composed. But they are still a sonic wonder. That great piece of free jazz sax... Anyway, Blondie weren't too shabby either; their strong/weak point was having a proto-Madonna as a leader who soon stopped being a serious leader and went for bland pop. Gwen Stefani must have read the whole biography anyway.

Enrico Ruggeri La vie en rouge

Can you recommend the best album by Ruggeri? I mean, his milestone, the first (and the last?) one to have? Ah, compilations excluded... Thanks, you’ve energized me!

Sorry, you quoted me but didn’t understand anyway? I just said: "The CCCP are now, for better or for worse, experienced as a limited historical phenomenon, or even (& wrongly) political." But not because I think they aren't, but because I believe they are NOT ONLY a limited historical-political phenomenon. They marked the '80s because they found themselves in it. But they are not simply children of their time. Their messages, that is to say, in my opinion, are very relevant from 1964 to 2005; they are not limiting. Do you understand now, dear? And excuse me... but I do put them on a pedestal, I would say they have earned it.

Odradek, you really are a great guy. You know how to navigate a jungle like this, and you know how to grab onto the right vines. Soon, I’ll bring you flowers in your dressing room, maybe with a nice CD in the bouquet.. The CCCP are now, for better or for worse, seen as a limited historical phenomenon, or even (& wrongly) as a political one. I would have liked for each of you to think, even just for a moment, "but what if the CCCP were to arrive now, maybe instead of Linea 77 or, I don’t know, Marlene Kuntz? What impact would they have in 2005 if a politically charged song were to come out while Biagio Antonacci is in vogue, or if a fiery band were to stake their summer on a hit from The Vibrations? Would they be locked up at Arezzo Wave or would they be brought onto MTV? Would they be superficially regarded as cute leftists like Modena or Bandabardò? What would the (alternative) girls do? I chose this review to remind everyone, now that 20 years have passed since then, that many situations repeat themselves cyclically, and the things around us are not very different. But they are missing.

I think Caz should read the letter to Berlinguer... Caz, you wrote a (mediocre) review of a movie in a section reserved for music reviews. And then you come to make obscene and a-musical comments on this review that instead deserves more worthy and interesting observations. Count to 3 before you speak, or at least don’t pretend to be what you’re not. Bye.

I say yes to ajeje. There are the Area, well… otherwise we’re just being too nitpicky… Then there are the Italian guys, but they would outshine both the others.
E A Man Called E
Voto:
Great selection. I love E and since the days of Novacaine For The Soul it was a blast to buy AMCE & Broken Piano Toyshop. It was quite a feat to find them, they weren't even with a scrap of a deal. But they didn't need one.
The Eels, however, are something else compared to Mark Everett as a solo artist: it would be like comparing the Tyrannosaurus Rex to the T-Rex.
