Queen + Paul Rodgers Return Of The Champions

QUEEN were my first love…and they will always be my favorite band! But that doesn’t mean I have to love everything they’ve done…right? Of course, I adore their albums from the '70s! In my opinion, if you only take into account the '70s, QUEEN is the greatest band of all time!! Then…they inevitably declined..! But I don’t hold it against them! It was the era..! All the great bands declined in the '80s: FLOYD with FINAL CUT, GENESIS with INVISIBLE TOUCH, and even QUEEN who shifted towards POP…but, it must be said, it’s still a sophisticated and well-produced POP compared to what many think of as POP..! That said, I repeat: I don’t want QUEEN with a new singer! Period.

That said, I’ll also say a little something in favor: in my opinion, to evaluate this album OBJECTIVELY, you need to try NOT to think about their past..! If you listen to this album and remove from your mind who’s playing and singing it, you will definitely appreciate it better because, after all, it’s well played by a good band..! As for MAY: you’re right, technically it’s a mess..! But creatively it’s fantastic; it has a compositional genius that’s on par with very few others..!
Alright, I’ll stop here..bye bye!!

I agree with this statement, I repeat: the basic idea, IN MY MODEST SUBJECTIVE OPINION AND THEREFORE RESPECTABLE LIKE ALL YOUR OPINIONS, is highly wrong/offensive/ugly! FREDDIE should not have been replaced! Period! Do they want to continue playing as TOM & JERRY (BRIAN and ROGER..)? Great.. they should change their name.. and not use the QUEEN brand just to attract more people..!

Your speech, with a few less swear words of course, makes perfect sense..! And I agree quite a bit..!

The most OBJECTIVELY possible.. you can't give a 1 to this album..! I mean it..! It's beyond all logic..! We are facing an album featuring one of the most CREATIVE guitarists ever, one of the most powerful ROCK voices in history, and a good drummer (considering his age too..)! A 1 is what BLUE, DESTINY'S CHILD, BRITNEY SPEARS deserve..! At least.. give it a 2.. please..! From my nickname, you'll notice I'm fond of QUEEN but, as you’ll understand by reading my previous messages.. I DON'T HAVE BLINDERS.. and I know that the return of MAY and TAYLOR with RODGERS is a disgusting choice..! However.. it’s still a live album that’s played really well!!! And of course, some may like it or not..! But at least it deserves a 2..! If nothing else, I repeat, for how the songs are played and arranged..! Are records judged based on sympathy? I really hope not..! If I were to vote based on sympathy.. I’d give it a 5.. but objectively.. this doesn’t go beyond a 2 or a 3..! A greeting!!! And fewer blinders.. please..!

But it’s also true that 5 is considered PERFECTION, right? And THE WORKS, for me, is certainly not perfect..! Yeah.. maybe it deserves a 4 because it’s a very well-made POP..!

The fact is that I don't even consider the BLUE and their crew..! A score of 3 here is a full passing grade.. even more for me..! The BLUE are below zero.. obviously! Cheers!!

The truth lies in the middle! In the sense that... technique is OBJECTIVE... and therefore... if you don't have it... you don't have it, plain and simple (and that's the case with THE EDGE... as well as with BRIAN MAY... or others... )! Style and emotions, on the other hand, are SUBJECTIVE... and we can't really discuss them because everyone will have their own opinion, their own tastes, and so on..! We can talk about technique... and see what's not working..! But when it comes to THE EDGE evoking emotions... we can't really discuss it... because everyone has their own perspective..! Even the guitarist of SPANDAU BALLET evokes emotions for a different audience, of course..! Best regards!

I agree, CLAUDIO..! As you may have noticed.. I CRITIQUE the QUEEN A LOT, even though they are one of my favorite bands! However, I won't go as far as to say certain nonsense, especially about the '70s albums (masterpieces like QUEEN 2, SHEER HEART ATTACK, and A NIGHT AT THE OPERA are untouchable, for God's sake..! )! And it makes me laugh to see certain self-proclaimed intellectuals in encyclopedias who use DOUBLE STANDARDS! For example: if a song is based on 3 chords and it's performed by the ROLLING STONES, people say, "Wow.. how talented.. with just 3 simple chords, they've created a masterpiece.." If a song is performed with 3 chords by DURAN DURAN, they say, "Look at those idiots.. they can't play.." And this is just one of many possible examples! It's pointless: too much focus is placed on the band's name and too little on the substance when it comes to criticizing/reviewing/talking about an album..! Instead, it should be the other way around! And with the QUEEN.. this doesn't happen.. and as soon as people see the name QUEEN, they immediately think: "Ugh.. what a drag.. those sellouts, the QUEEN.."! When that's absolutely not true, or at least.. it's not true for the first 5-6 albums! Then.. the '80s.. are a whole different story.. but.. okay.. it happens in a long career..! If BONZO hadn't died.. even ZEPPELIN would have had a decline, believe me..!
