... (mumble mumble) then the discussion is indeed more complicated because when evaluating a work, not only the "absolute" artistic value plays a role, but also a retrospective historical evaluation, and in this regard, this VU deserves credit for having influenced a myriad of groups with a musical personality that's quite different from the first two albums... I know, I'm going in circles, but believe me, I've been trying for years to like it, but I just can't!!!

let's put it this way: a good record, but with a reputation that is quite undeserved and derivative.

I don't know, say what you want, but I just can't get into these third velvet orphans of Cale. The first two are absolutely immense and archetypal, agreed, but here we witness a "normalization" of the sound that seems blasphemous compared to the sonic disasters of the previous albums... Same old story: if it weren't for VU&NICO and WL/WH, who would still be talking about this record and/or about Loaded?

Oops.. I completely overlooked the unintended double meaning. I should change my psychiatrist, right?

Blessed me? One achieves very little bliss listening to the assorted cacophonies of White and the beautiful company. My favorite sound from this group remains that wonderful organ of Adele Bertei...

I absolutely have no idea what the hell I would have written in a review of this record, but starting off with a quote from an Enel advertisement doesn’t seem like the best choice (even if, after all, it could lead to a discussion about pop art, but let’s not go there, I’m too lazy for that too…) Sunday morning a song from ’95? And why? It seems to me that it oozes 1967 from every chime… interesting, although not entirely shareable, is the reading of Rosemary's Baby.

Anyway, Hours, in its revivalist game, was a great album, much better even than Heathen, in my opinion.

I reiterate my weakness for the Contortions, who here showcase a sound still far from the pseudo-disco frenzy of their debut Buy, but they certainly stand out. ...Lydia Lunch has always slightly annoyed me, I can't help it! :-)

For several days now, I haven't been able to take it out of the player. It's really a great album, even though it's not the pinnacle of originality. I wonder why I always snubbed them, convinced they were doing something completely different... thanks ege!

what a disappointment. there are a few barely decent tracks, but overall it’s pretty sad, starting with the gruesome cover. this album even made me reevaluate Heathen, which at its release seemed quite bland, but compared to this, it feels like a mature work. such a shame.
