"The CDs are still around, punk can still be bought, I don’t think it has been pulled from the market"... no one is saying that just because 30 years have passed we should flush old music down the toilet. It's just that it seems pointless to FEAR punk rock as if it were something alive and threatening, a musical phenomenon that, for better or worse, had its life 30 years ago. You can't go back in a time machine and kill (besides Stalin and Hitler, of course) Sid Vicious and Malcolm McLaren. Those stirrings, those influences have existed, and very likely without punk, there wouldn't be much of the current music you claim to appreciate.

But... speaking of "neo-neo whatever," does anyone care about Franz Ferdinand anymore? They didn't seem that bad to me.

What a beautiful review! I've heard about Walker, but I've never listened to anything... Kudos for how you've managed to summarize what is most irritating about Sylvian... that always going to the potty...!

... in fact, I didn't mention Odradek as one of the influences on the Jesus and Mary Chain, but rather as another group that, by assimilating fragments of rock history, has managed to say something of its own.

my god. first the Genesis of INVISIBOLTACC' and now this other assault on the estate of my poor sphincters...

Personally, I don’t see anything scandalous in resurrecting the usual guitar riffs; rock seems to me filled with people who have always done nothing but reassemble the same ingredients in increasingly different ways. I think of the Jesus and Mary Chain...

"punk sucks bullshit, that's all" and doesn’t that seem to you, if not a thesis, at least an argument that can be countered? Usually, aren’t you the one who jumps into certain reviews saying that the arguments presented are worthless? How come when it suits you, they all become opinions? P.S. So if you don’t give a fuck about what others think, why do you keep responding to comments? Even better: why do you keep writing on Debaser? :-D

Something manages to be saved... my self-esteem, right after throwing this record into the flames.

CAAAAAAZZZZZ!!! (but where were you???? ;-) I would also agree on the superiority of American garage rock (Stooge, MC5, Blue Cheer, etc.) and American hardcore punk compared to the early English punk, too bad there are at least three names that dramatically refute your thesis: BUZZCOCKS, DAMNED, CLASH, STRANGLERS (and I won't even start talking about post-punk or I won't finish)!
