On the causes of why Nazism was born and proliferated, I would say they are not so much to be found in the social factors that usurped childhood from children, such as the severity of familial education in late Habsburg Austria (which does play a role), but above all in the sense of frustration of a people that went from being imperial and "flourishing" to being a "people of the defeated" and emerged from the end of the war truly broken (unemployment, poverty, etc.). However, this complex issue cannot be limited to four lines, so I will refrain from elaborating further. Certainly, that generation, raised so harshly, would find in Nazism a mass beacon, which as we all know turned out to be a monstrous delusion. Anyway, your review is excellent and for me, it is among the recommended ones.

A beautiful review for the most beautiful film I have seen this year. A sharp black and white, just like the film itself. Truly a "snapshot" of life, as if we have also spent a week in that village, where emotionally detached children bear the sins of their fathers with icy cruelty. There is a historical inaccuracy in all the reviews I have read about the film, including this one; the film does not conclude with the advent of Nazism and World War II but rather with the assassination of the Archduke and the subsequent outbreak of the First World War.

The idea of writing a review 23 years after the album's release and reading it critically in light of today's facts was appealing. I immediately thought of creating a double review: the first written by the listener of yesterday (I bought this album as soon as it came out) and the second with the perspective and ideas of today, which, as far as I’m concerned, have evolved significantly, just like Ferretti, whom I greatly admire. Your review started off on the right track but, in my opinion, it gets lost in a little.

Pulp Fiction is for me the absolute masterpiece. I also find Kill Bill beautiful, intriguing, adrenaline-pumping, interesting but terribly "stylized"... of course in the "style" of Tarantino.

One last thing, if I had seen it with the dialogues in Sicilian subtitled in Italian, like the original version presented in Venice and the one that will be presented abroad, and not dubbed in Italian Sicilianized, I might have liked it more!

Saw it last night and with some difficulty I made it to the end! I didn't like the secrecy between the protagonist's private story and the historical development of the era. Neither goes into depth; instead of representing 60 years of family history in 60 years of Sicilian/national history, I would have focused on just one generational transition rather than three. The neorealistic portrayal of the "Vinti" by Verga is, in my opinion, presented more in folkloric aspects than in the psychological tensions of the characters, and honestly, Francesco Scianna is worth just a nail of the neorealist Raf Vallone! No offense, the cinematography, the skillful use of lights, the beautiful shots, especially in wide angles, save a film that otherwise finds little depth in the performances and too often falls into the didactic, with cameos that, all things considered, were unnecessary (Frassica and Gullotta above all). What remains commendable, however, is the fact that a film and a director from our country can attract significant investments; after all, to keep the Italian film industry alive, which is made up mostly of many small (and not always useful) projects, we need someone to "pull the cart," and Tornatore is undoubtedly number one in this! And then, how LONG is this film???!!!

This has been a nice little tune that I've listened to for a good part of the summer, but then, like love, it eventually tires and you change horizons...
