I know a person who would go crazy for Tom Ze, yet they are not someone who is inclined to craziness.

While keeping my judgment suspended, I still find myself preferring this album over the first one by PGR; however, I find the last one very beautiful.

It had been a while since I last listened to fado, then this evening circumstances led me to listen again to Teresa Salgueiro after so long, and it was incredible! Kappola, perhaps the fado singer you're talking about is Amalia Rodriguez; Cesaria Evora is Cape Verdean and doesn't sing fado, although she's equally amazing. Do you remember the track in my compilation? Beautiful!

Great suggestion, dear Hal, even though it's been almost a good year since I've listened to fado records.

This album hasn't convinced me for now, perhaps later.

The aberrations of each decade, like at the beginning of the two-thousands, everyone with the article "the" in front... yet another horror!

I don't find this album bad; maybe I'll get tired of it after a while. Nice, clean, and timely review.

Since the debate has been sparked, I will feed it and specify. So, in my opinion, and let’s listen to the first sample to understand, this album fully embraces the sonic style of rock-pop (and not pop-rock, so even the picky ones like me are satisfied) of the decade in question. If we want to place it, according to me, without reaching too far into the underground world, it is part of a sonic triad that starts with Billy Idol, goes through the already mentioned "Trampoline" by Julian Cope, and ends with this work. The Duranian reference, and it’s just one specific album, was made to convey what the sonic styles of the decade could be, not that this album resembles that of Duran Duran, much less the examples that some have cited later: Kajagoogoo or Spandau Ballet. Secondly, it’s true that in the '80s there were several different genres, ranging from the "Psychocandy" of Jesus and Mary Chain to "People from Ibiza" by Sandy Marton, so blessed variety; however, it’s also true that every decade had its own sonic mood for every musical genre, and that of rock-pop for me is well represented by the Duran record mentioned, as well as by Julian Cope's album and also very well by Talk Talk or Bowie’s "China Girl." The discussion clearly relates to the music and not the lyrics, which could be a separate discussion for this album.

No Luca, I completely disagree with you; this album features ALL the stylistic elements of '80s music. Perhaps only "Save a Prayer" by Duran Duran and "Trampolene" by Julian Cope are even more distinctly '80s, along with a few other albums, but this is definitely pop/rock music (as visionary and affected as its creator) that unmistakably has that signature sound.
When I bought that record, having read the enthusiastic reviews in Rockerilla, I expected some strange mix of sounds, but while I acknowledged it was a great album, I was disappointed to hear so many pop accents. After all, during those years, I hardly ventured beyond the Sisters of Mercy as my daily personal soundtrack.
Kosmo, reading such a review must have brought you, like it did for me, a lump in your throat of saudade. Great Trelly.

In a sad place like Alte Ceccato, there couldn't be a place that stood out from the rest of the urban context! A beautiful tale, heartfelt and angry; when I find myself in those kinds of evenings, I get furious… stoic!
