Antonín Dvořák Piano Quintet Op.81

By now, factions and fanzines of musical genres have formed on DeB; you can no longer find a Josi commenting on Metallica or a bionic metalhead commenting on Mozart. This will mean that the next de-meeting will no longer be held at Alkatraz but at Arcimboldi. Well-written review.

The success of this album/group, in my opinion, shouldn't be sought in the musical formula, although it's enjoyable, but rather in the communication that the group transmitted and in the sexual/liberatory/gay message that they brought to the media's attention with a product that had a strongly commercial impact. In fact, the success was primarily driven by the two versions of the "Relax" video and then also by the subsequent ones, like the one where the lookalikes of Reagan and Brezhnev were beating each other up in a mud pit using prohibited Greco-Roman wrestling moves, famously featuring the handshake of the co... between the two leaders, with a deliberately ambiguous audience all around. Musically, they were pleasant and nothing more.

I got side seats (for better acoustics compared to the center ones) and a railing; I'm not regretting it, but I left 177 euros per ticket... honestly, I hope I won't regret it even on the morning of the 20th.

The concert will be the only one in Italy and one of three taking place in Europe, and the theme will revolve around Miles Davis, which is also the main theme of Veneto Jazz this year. A record will be produced from the concert. In my opinion, all of this is enough reason to buy tickets, which, of course, are very expensive, but La Fenice only accommodates 1000 seats. So, prices in the orchestra range from 224 Euros to 40 Euros for standing only, with no visibility of the stage because they are the side seats of the balcony or similar. You can find the information on the Veneto Jazz website, which redirects you to HelloVenezia and, in turn, for purchasing on VivaTicket.it.

Anyway, the tickets went on sale on Saturday, and when I got mine there was still plenty of availability, but they really cost a lot. However, I believe it's worth it; after all, it won't be easy for me to return to the Fenice and listen to Jarret "only" playing Miles Davis on a unique themed evening. At this point, I'm tempted to open the meeting because I know that there are other people on DeB willing to make these kinds of "sacrifices."

Of course, I wish I could have been at that concert too, for the Scala, for Jarrett, for the atmosphere, for everything, really. I saw Jarrett only once, three years ago in Ancona, and I still hold all the emotion of hearing him with his legendary trio inside me, but seeing him solo is a gem that you can truly reserve for very few occasions, and for one of these upcoming ones, I’ve absolutely decided not to miss it. In fact, two days ago I took out a loan to get two tickets for his next solo concert at the Fenice in Venice on July 19, and just the thought of it excites me... if I’m up to it, I might even write a review.

Yes, the concert was very nice and the evening with all the debaserioti was great too. I listened to this record and didn't buy it because it seemed identical to the concert in Milan. The dvd, well I have a homemade one, I filmed almost the whole concert with my phone... you can't see anything and it sounds even worse!

Voto:
When I bought this album, I was in a phase of my life during which I couldn't listen to "quiet" music, and this CD is profoundly that. So more than a few fleeting listens, which didn’t even reach the end, I didn’t dedicate to it. Over the years, when I want to relax, close my eyes, and just feel the notes coming from the stereo, I first listen to Charlie Haden/Pat Metheny and then this, for me two very evocative albums.

Great review for a great record, which for me as an old fan remains on vinyl.

The review is truly beautiful, but I have practically almost all of PatMet's albums, and they've never really grabbed me. Let's say it’s an excellent stylistic exercise, but I wouldn't dare to compare it to “Beyond The Missouri Sky” because the latter, in my opinion, is a magnificent masterpiece that I never tire of listening to, unlike this one which is nice to help pass an hour with a book in hand.
