this is strangler who contradicts you: "What a drag, always making comparisons: Lennon is Lennon and Barret is Barret, that’s it. Another nonsense: Play a Beatles song with today’s arrangements and you’ll see how current it actually sounds, no kidding, they created timeless melodies. Last note: If Barret had kept his neurons intact, it means he would never have been Barret."

"Lennon pales in comparison to Barrett. Lennon is a god, but Barrett created psychedelia, electronics; Barrett saw BEYOND, while Lennon thought about his present. You play Interstellar Overdrive to someone who doesn’t know it, tell them it’s from 2004 (I did this) and people believe you. You play the Beatles and people say: SIXTIES. Barrett went mad after the first album; if he kept his mind together who knows what the hell he would have created, considering that WITH ONE ALBUM (while in possession of all his mental faculties he only made one) he made an incredible mess. Lennon never dared to look beyond his years, how many albums? nine? ten? Therefore, in the face of Syd's galactic intuitions, he has to step aside. Sure, we’re talking about two TITANS, but Syd is slightly more titan in my opinion. In fact, let’s drop the slightly."

Beautiful review, you made me want to get the album right away.

Dude, reread what you wrote. You started making comparisons (prompted by the review), I only talked about influence and musical paths. Only after they pointed out that you were talking nonsense did you retreat to discussing drugs (which isn't new, by the way). P.S. Nickghostdrake, I often put on the 5, see also the latest on Scott Walker.

Enough with these comparisons; those who know Barrett are well aware that his musical heroes were Dylan and Lennon. If Lennon hadn't made certain songs (for example, Tomorrow Never Knows), Barrett might not have even attempted to make an album like Piper. Influences in music are everything... Moreover, it has never been clear who arrived first at certain sounds, whether it was the Beatles with Sgt. Peppers or Barrett with The Piper, since both albums were recorded simultaneously at Abbey Road. Let's say that during that period, London was breathing psychedelia, probably thanks to some influences (more musical than drug-related) coming from America, see 13th Floor Elevators, Dylan himself for the visionary quality of the lyrics, Grateful Dead, Zappa, just to name a few. Barrett is a genius, and there's no need to watch a DVD to understand it; just listen to his music, and by listening to his music, one cannot help but notice the love Barrett had for Lennon or for Dylan (by the way, beautiful Bob Dylan Blues, inexplicably left out of this very album).
P.S. Not a bad review, but the walrus was Paul.

I also agree with the reviewer and with nickghostdrake, I know everything about Scott Walker and this is my favorite, but this doesn’t mean to create controversies, because I really like Tilt and all the rest of his discography too.

Yes, the production is the same, the sounds are the same, but it is more intense.

Those who know nothing of Cash know nothing of his music either; it would suffice to know the discography of the man in black to understand that Cash has always stood up for the weak, the unfortunate, and the deluded, singing the old western tales in albums like Ride This Train, the rights of workers in Blood, Sweat and Tears, and telling the story and culture of the Native Americans in the beautiful Bitter Tears... and this is just to name three albums.

An album steeped in death, explored in all its forms, revisiting not only the cited tracks but also the beautiful Give My Love To Rose, one of Cash's most famous songs. The version of the song by Hank performed here with Cave is surely spine-chilling, even though it's a step below the one he recorded with his friend Jerry Lee Lewis, mockingly and ironically exorcising the close with We'll Meet Again. It’s worth mentioning Cash’s posthumous album My Mother's Hymn, a true masterpiece.
