Behaviour is the only album I have by the Pet Shop Boys, and I must agree with you about what you’ve been saying. Objectively, there are some questionable names in the list of a hundred; you mention ABBA, and I agree here as well. But even Frank Sinatra doesn’t seem very relevant to the genre. Despite this foray into pop territory, Mucchio continues to primarily ignore this area that is so dear to us. Rockstar from the '80s was a real guide for genre lovers, but now it’s frankly unreadable. If you feel like sharing some more opinions, I’m eagerly waiting.

I bought this record at a bargain price in a store that was closing down, but I still haven't had time to listen to it. It's true that your review cools my enthusiasm a bit. That said, Steven Wilson is always a guarantee. However, I've never read any praises about this record. I'll get back to you as soon as I find the time to put it in my hyper-cluttered player.

With United, they had hinted at great potential. The subsequent Alphabetical had conformed to a teen-music cliché without daring too much. This follows in the footsteps of that teen-music. Not bad, but also not memorable. Ten little songs. But in the end, how many do you remember? RATING 5.5.

It's true that Mucchio is quite biased towards certain genres and sometimes they can be a bit too smug. Honestly, I can’t tell you whether they’ve done a great job or a crappy one. There are some albums I wasn't even aware of. I'm educating myself on the matter. I used to read Rockstar in the eighties too, but I had to abandon it for obvious reasons, and Mucchio seems to be the most serious and competent magazine currently on the market. And anyway, they continue to be biased against pop in general, and in their desire to be cool and alternative at all costs, they sometimes (actually often) go off track a bit. The Prefab? No worries, they’re here :-))

I strongly recommend you buy the Mucchio Extra still on newsstands (the cover features David Bowie from Aladdin Sane) because the exploration of the 100 essential pop albums is truly interesting. I know it costs 8 euros, but it's not easy to find someone who speaks wisely about 100 gems of pop throughout the ages. I eagerly await your thoughts.

Hi Socrates. I don't know if you read Mucchio Extra, but this quarter (so it's still on the newsstand) they included an Eric Matthews album among the 100 essential pop albums. Not this one, but It's Heavy In Here, which I believe is the debut from 1995. Who could know and review Eric Matthews if not Socrates? It's a hard-to-find album. What do you think?

I only own Either/Or by Elliott Smith, and I must say it doesn't capture my heart. I was planning to give him another shot with Figure 8. Should I go for it?

Tonight I'm off to search for the vinyl (I seem to remember it was a double) and I'll open the ear cups. Debaser also helps to dust off memories.

Seeing this album already priced at 10.90 euros (9.90 at Media World) makes me think a lot about the entire system surrounding the majors, those who manage them, and those who impose prices on new CDs, even above 20 euros. It's been 5 months since this album was released, it has sold quite well, and it's already in mid-price. I can only imagine what someone who spent 20 euros (mostly people who buy two albums a year, if they're lucky) must be thinking. And I won’t make a list of timeless albums still at full price. I just can't make sense of it anymore.
