It's not that I can't stand Bloc Party, but these guys are already ready for the mainstream right out of the garage (kind of like the RHCP after Mother's Milk or Blur) and there's nothing wrong with that if you're good (for example the RHCP of BLOODSUGARSEXMAGIK or certain things by Blur), but you don't have to pretend to be alternative.

all things said by someone who just a few months ago didn't even listen to indie, mainly finding indie fans to be snobbish and boring. it's not to put people in labeled boxes, it's just to give credit to those who do their job very well and don't pass it off as something else.

In England, the Clinics are indie (and listen to something from them, they are much more imaginative and raw than Bloc Party, while still staying close to a punk-wave slightly tainted by electronics and dub).

The New Pornographers are indie.

better than usual, although the punctuation issue remains. still interesting and also less self-indulgent than other times, I would say even funny (for example, the closing...)

Conor Oberst is indie in his projects, leaning towards folk with Bright Eyes and more punk-wave with Desaparecidos.

Yo La Tengo and Luna are indie. If we want to, among the subjects of her majesty, Gomez are indie. I keep thinking about it...

damn the Sparklehorse, the early R.E.M. are indie for example. this stuff is pop-rock-wave just like the Strokes and their pals. maybe from the latest generation the only ones that are a bit indie are the Black Rebel M.C. but I've lost track of them. anyway, sorry if I misspelled before, you’re nice you know...
