Rough Trade has released many things by Russel, and I would say they are quite deserving, at least the ones I’ve listened to (World Of Echo and Calling Out Of Context). Beautifully written...

First Though, Best Thoung is a collection of early works dedicated to the avant-garde. Unfortunately, I still have to buy that one, but I have World Of Echo and Calling Out Context: the former is quite unique (a bit of pop, a bit of noise, a bit of minimalism all submerged in a tide of reverbs, delays, and echoes); the latter, on the other hand, flows beautifully because it’s a collection of pieces inspired by disco music (you get a kind of oblique and very sunny dance music, at once easy and cerebral: the rhythm is always off-kilter, the cello hidden under an amplification that's both soft and distorted, and the vocals are something beautiful).
