Regarding the atheists, I’m not very informed, but I had heard that Choy had left the other members mid-tour because he wanted more money and the cancellation of the remaining dates had generated serious legal issues with the managers.

And then, I don't define them as NORMAL, damn, they are monsters (well, THESSELING, from what I've heard, doesn't convince me) it's just that I don't see them as that superior to DiGiorgio. In my opinion, when there’s a circle of "monsters" in a genre, it’s also difficult to make rankings because after having that huge amount of technique that all the others already possess, improvement is much more tied to one's own style and musical sensitivity, making it impossible to give objective opinions. Instead, regarding Malone, it’s clear that there's an extra step; Malone is an excellent jazz bassist, musician, and teacher. Choy isn’t in the ranking simply because when I wrote it, I hadn’t yet managed to listen to Elements.

Ohoh, take it easy, what does self-taught have to do with it, excuse me? Do you really think a piece of paper means someone knows how to play? To give you a "small" example: Jaco picked up the bass all by himself, and all they taught him (Bob Whitlock) before he became a monster were those few pieces he had to learn in the week when he switched from drums to bass in his band, and by the way, he wasn't even graduated. Honestly, all the bassists who have even touched metal (including Malone) give blowjobs to Jaco, and then Steve studied music, low clarinet, and a bit of double bass at an institute and then switched to electric, which a guy taught him for a while.

If I've picked up even just the gist of the word picarata, I deduce that you don't like it; for me, however, it is a great means of expression. Besides, I meant that the bass is quite prominent (despite the horrible production) throughout the entire album, even when it does the job of a "traditional" bass.

As far as I know, R means "Right hand." I've only found it when the marked note is to be played by pressing it down with the right hand on the keyboard, rather than plucking it normally with both hands. Or it could (but I don't think so) mean rake, and it should be played muted (ghost).

Jeroen Thesseling who?! A jazz background? Honestly, I normally hear a good heavy death metal bassist in spheres.

Damn, I hadn’t read this!!!! Steve DiGiorgio can go to bed?! Are we kidding? Do you not realize what you’re saying? Besides the fact that Tony Choy is really good, among the best, and okay, but I definitely wouldn't put him alongside Malone, who is slightly superior. But in the circle of DiGiorgio, Webser, and company, where preference can only fall on personal taste, since they are all excellent bassists, it’s not like he does much in Pestilence either, and the only solo that exists (Soulless) is the ugliest bass solo I’ve ever heard. Other stuff with Choy? Demo from Cynic, nice, fast Choy, okay, then? Elements, great numbers and great taste, more for the rhythm than for the soloist, stunning work... then he took his money, ditched Atheist on tour, sending a couple of them to jail (but that’s another story), and went to do some Latin American stuff. DiGiorgio works his ass off between CDs, tours, and a janitorial job, and has always delivered excellent albums at least as good as Elements in terms of originality and bass presence, and even if you can’t say he’s a better or worse bassist than Choy, I find him more "tasty" and definitely with a much more particular and personal style and sound. And let’s not forget that Stevie has done fusion, and Dark Hall is one of the best fusion albums I’ve ever listened to.

Come on, this cover isn't bad, oh Blinded, it's nice, energetic, pulls you in, but saying it's definitely better Death Metal seems a bit bold to me; even within the same CD, I like Cold more.

Well, of course, although my favorite is the "Beast" form.
