I would say that the level of reviewers and reviews of Iron is rightly aligning with the level of the band and the crap it has been producing for more than twenty years now, bye bye metal kids.

If you want to hear Sean in action, he recorded Aghora with Aghora (mava), where the rhythm section is pretty much fusion. But the real masterpiece is the two albums by Gordian Knot (which is an alternative name for "Sean Malone"). Here, he gathers the BEST progressive musicians out there and comes up with an original prog-fusion that has slightly and brilliantly "metallic" elements. As for the type of bassist, he is obviously a Jazz Fusion-trained bassist, one of those who can easily duet with any Michael Manring, and indeed, unlike StevieD for example, who is also jazz-trained, he hasn't made pure metal albums. Keep in mind that he also teaches theory at a music university (or some American-like institution) and among other things, he has written a text where he gives examples and explains the fundamentals of EVERY bass style, from samba to death metal, from bebop to funky slap and tapping. He is a genius; just think about how he handles an instrument like the stick (Gordian Knot Gordian Knot Gordian Knot).

No, let's be clear, a few are fine, indeed they add a healthy ironic nuance; I was saying that perhaps there is one too many in this one, but nothing crucial.

Ah, because that one with the big swords is smart... great review, Cliff, even though the frequent use of "highfalutin" expressions grates on me a little, just a bit. Great live show, great Panciera, good observation on Filippo's expired vocal. Ah, one thing, Cliff, it's "Cowboys from Hell," you've written it twice in the singular :)

I feel the Pantera as Thrash, sure, the thrash of Pantera is different from the thrash of Metallica & company. If it's not thrash because it's different from the Bay Area thrash, then we should create a genre for every band. When I play Pantera, I feel like when I play Metallica, so for me, it's Thrash, Texan thrash!!

I was in the second pool (green wristband) until the placebos (blah) then right before Metallica there was so much chaos that security got distracted and I managed to sneak over without any problems.
