Antonio's perspective on criticism and judgment skills in general is rational and full of common sense, but not always aligned with reality. It is hard to deny that the painter or the musician, to whom he would confidently turn, if they are truly considered such and not mere enthusiasts, most probably owe a great deal to a critic who cannot paint or play. I don't think it's so obvious that an artist must be a better critic. The examples that could be made in this regard are numerous.

Many owe him something... even the dear Steely. Listen to the title track of the album in question, right after "Rikki Don't Lose That Number," and then let me know. For me, it's one of the best expressions of the renowned Blue Note. Year of grace 1964...

Wow, so the 49 was relevant after all... and there we go with the five in a row! Given the circumstances, many of us could rightfully aspire to preside over the Senate... ;-)

"Mature" is a euphemism... but it's a nice combination: 39 - 42 - 49 (for Naples and for everyone). :-)

Forty-two...but I wouldn't trade places with many twenty-year-olds (nor, unfortunately, would they with me. ;-)).

I have a friend who is crazy about him. After your heartfelt description, I have no more excuses: not giving him a chance would be a crime. P.S. Is it enough if I say "forty"?

Regarding Fagen, you know I'm not objective, and I'm afraid of getting carried away. The latest album, I say it without beating around the bush, seems like a great record to me. For some, such goodness might become a bit tiresome, like that king who used to say, "Always partridges!" ;-)

In this brief story of my dance-life, I believe I've forgotten a couple of fundamental things: ska, especially Madness and Specials, and dub, like Mad Professor, Sly & Robbie.
