The Housemartins Now That's What I Call Quite Good

I stand with those who say they didn't make the leap, but I remember them well; I still have the vinyl of London 0 Hull 4, and it's indeed excellent, lively, and energetic music. In fact, I might just go dig it out...

Wire 154

this review says much more about its Author than about the Wire. It aims to showcase the intellectual qualities of the Author. As such, it is certainly remarkable, while as a review of the album, it is somewhat lacking in clarity. The experience of reading it is indeed akin to a philosophical treatise, and although the Wire are decidedly cerebral, they remain musicians and therefore resistant to excessive conceptualization. Great album nonetheless.

Animal Collective Here Comes The Indian
Voto:
giubbo, Here Comes The Indian is not in the style of visiting friends. In that style, there’s campfire songs which, by the way, is officially unavailable but can be found online. The thing is, campfire songs is even more out of focus than visiting friends. It was recorded with home instruments in a ranch, all live. As for g_a, I also saw them live in Bologna and it was an amazing show for me, so I don’t know what to say; it’s probably not your band, it happens!
Pixies Bossanova

It seems to me that the lyricism here is truly excessive. The album deserved a review that was a bit more detailed.
Pixies Trompe le monde
Voto:
You've convinced me. I like it. Trompe le Monde is the weakest album, it seems like an ordinary record compared to the other Pixies albums. But it's not bad, it's still a Pixies record! Now we just need to review Bossanova, which is superior to this TLM.

Patrick Wolf Live @ Scala, London
Voto:
this debate about the English/Irish wolf is a classic that has been addressed on other English-language sites as well. in fact, there is an underlying ambiguity. he comes from an Irish family, but I believe he was born in England or at least has been living there since he was little. so there’s a bit of a double identity, and the imagery he draws from is more that of Cornwall than of Ireland, which, by the way, are very similar imaginary realms.
Pixies Come On Pilgrim
Voto:
A 5-star review is a must because it’s clear that it was made with genuine love and care, not to mention a significant cultural background. The album may not quite deserve a 5 yet, but it already hints at the greatness of one of the most extraordinary and talented bands to appear on the rock scene. Having seen them live in Imola, they are still stratospheric. Surfer Rosa is a great album, Doolittle is absolute perfection, then they might drop off a bit. For instance, Trompe le Monde doesn’t fully convince me. 5 stars also to this, Come On Pilgrim, let’s go...
