I'm so old that I saw Cherubinotti at Bandiera Gialla in August '85, while he was tumbling on stage with his hat on backwards, mispronouncing some consonants into the microphone with his aspirated ffff. I wondered why I was wasting my time in such a foolish way listening to such nonsense, and since then, I haven't made even a lira from it. I completely agree with what you write.

I agree on the effectiveness of this film as a demolition of the barrier of representation. Here the theorem of "ceci n'est pas une pipe" can go fuck itself. The vision here is as jarring as the reality depicted. That was my impression when I first saw it, and even now, years later, revisiting the clips you mentioned. My reflection, far from original, is that not much has changed today, but in return, there's no one left in cinema who has the guts to undertake such an operation. I don't want to come off as an old-fashioned purist, but come on, how badly is Italian cinema today that it hails Sorrentino?!!!!
