Well, everything works perfectly in this thriller: tight pacing, lean but effective direction, a dark atmosphere, spot-on character psychology, and truly on-point actors (how can you forget Hopkins' chilling gaze?). Some heart-pounding exchanges between the protagonists and the escape scene are truly memorable. In its genre, it's really excellent.

The choice to turn "lambs" into "innocenti" is a bit unfortunate...

I have no words, only shudders. Immense film.

Wonderful film, with a very accurate theme of voyeurism and the window as a cinematic mirror. A truly refined film that is also directorially enjoyable. The ending is absolutely exceptional in its irony, everything is extremely beautiful and inspired, my goodness.

Also worth mentioning is the excellent parody of the Simpsons.

I'm back to write here to say to catch up on 'Pompoko', probably Takahata's most "essayistic" and least cinematic work, but equally valid, especially in the second part.

As someone who is not an expert in film techniques and knows nothing about car races, I greatly appreciated how the camera kept changing angles and shots; I don't know, it really gave me a feeling of adrenaline and the unexpected, which I suppose are the emotions typical of a race.

The final twist in the cemetery was also very beautiful; do you think it can be interpreted metaphorically as well?

The first part with Roxas is amazing.

Probably my favorite work by Leo, as dark in atmosphere as it is warm in colors.

Excellent and astute review of Takahata's artistic and conceptual testament, an absolute masterpiece and probably the most beautiful, complete, and sensory film to come out of Studio Ghibli (those who argue with me bring up Howl, I'll enjoy it :D). A sort of modern-day Heidi (another masterpiece series by the Maestro), however set in a more sorrowful and disillusioned context.

Truly magnificent.

A great film, even if not my favorite by Takahata (and that says a lot about his directorial level). A sublime analysis that lays bare the meanness, selfishness, and intolerance of the human being.

The album is pretty disappointing; the only shine in the usual sea of mediocrity in lyrics and music (whose arrangements, however, show more quality compared to what was offered previously) is 'Alice e il Blu', which I find to be a truly remarkable song, beautifully poignant, filled with vivid imagery (which I could easily see translated into a stop-motion film in the style of Coraline), a powerful moral, and a perfect text with fairy-tale tones. The pathos it achieves with the final climax is absolutely commendable.
It’s undoubtedly their best song and one of my absolute favorites, I believe.

Anyway, a couple of honest tracks are elevated by his lovely way of using his voice, which is, at least here, absolutely highlighted, and they are still salvable.
