Refinement of the first episode with that extraordinary insight of the remix avant la lettre, which tips the scales towards my favorite of the two, personally speaking.

Revised and performed with a live orchestra, with perfect timing and a finally fitting original soundtrack (not like the abominable Italian DVD version), I was finally able to enjoy it in all its splendor. The coolest thing about the film, however, beyond the darkness and tension that have already been mentioned, is that in terms of storytelling, in my opinion, it is truly fresh; at a strictly entertainment level, it really excels (unlike Vampyr, which is also beautiful but more sophisticated and cumbersome). The only element that reveals its nearly hundred years, not splendidly, more so, is precisely its being a silent film (by the way, the theatrical expressiveness of fear/terror of the protagonists, beyond the Count's performance, is truly chilling).
And now onto Herzog's remake.

As far as I'm concerned, it's another great film by Dreyer—spartan, cultured, auteur-driven, and sensitive—only this time the theme didn't resonate with me as much as 'Dies Irae' and especially that masterful masterpiece 'Ordet'. But what can you say about films that are shot and acted like this...

But had this consumed Blue before giving birth to him? 😂 Emotionally, it's totally flattening Ys, and I'm digesting it much more easily at the first listen.

What a megazarrata ahahah, I really hope (but I'm almost sure not) that the triangle and its Snow White-like trick weren't in the book, the peak of trash and hypocrisy, a truly unpleasant ending.

Yet I didn't feel this tediousness, maybe I'm just a clueless fool.

The usual early '80s inspired Battiato pop, a valid album even though I preferred 'Energie'; maybe it's the vocal acrobatics of Russo, I don't know.

Another vintage Bergman, shot from an anthology and never trivial. The slice-of-life scenes between father and daughter awakening left my heart trembling for how modern they are.
