De André had just released the 45 RPM "Una storia sbagliata/Titti" in '80 and enjoyed a successful tour in '78-'79 with PFM, which breathed new sonic life into his old hits. The album closes the cycle that began in '78 with "Rimini." This cycle (in many quotes) is De André's more "Pop-Rock" phase. I wouldn't dare call it commercial because that label doesn't suit Faber. However, compared to his previous works and especially to those that followed, where the complexity of sound exploration would become more meticulous and painstaking, this is undoubtedly a more "lightweight" period for the Genoese maestro, but one that is dense with extraordinary tracks.

Great review. One of the artistic peaks of Faber. Together with La Buona novella and Anime Salve, this is the album I prefer. It’s worth mentioning for the arrangements, and the contribution of a very young Nicola Piovani, without whom the entire album from 1971 would not have that freshness in the sounds that is still palpable, and who also collaborated two years later on Storia di un impiegato.
