A truly raw and chilling book.

Remarkable notes, but not very fluid. Still 5 for the topic addressed. The disc is quite beautiful, and the keyboard solo in the title track immediately gets me excited!

Naval operations in World War I primarily developed around the need to ensure the security of one's maritime communication routes and to block or undermine those of the enemy. In particular, the naval forces of the Allied powers (the British Royal Navy, the French Marine nationale, the Russian Voenno Morskoj Flot Rossijskoj Imperii, the Italian Regia Marina, and, to a lesser extent, the American United States Navy and the Japanese Dai-Nippon Teikoku Kaigun) adopted a strategy aimed at controlling the areas used by their maritime traffic and imposing a blockade on their opponents.

The naval operations of the Central Powers' navies (the German Kaiserliche Marine, the Austro-Hungarian k.u.k. Kriegsmarine, and the Ottoman Osmanli Donanmasi) were instead characterized by the "flotilla in being" strategy: outnumbered, the surface fleets of the Central Powers did not engage in direct confrontations with the bulk of the enemy but maintained a "potential" threat, aiming to wear out adversary forces, to break through blockades, and to undermine commercial routes through the use of light units, submarines, and privateer ships.

Military operations involved (to varying degrees of directness and intensity) all the oceans and major bodies of water around the globe. While the North Sea was the theater of distant clashes between the German Hochseeflotte and the British Grand Fleet, in the Mediterranean the combined fleets of Italy, France, and the United Kingdom (with small contributions from Japan, Australia, and Greece) confronted the Austro-Hungarian navy, which was practically holed up in its ports on the Adriatic Sea, in addition to engaging against the Ottoman defenses at the Dardanelles. The vast Russian Empire faced Germany in the Baltic Sea and the Ottoman Empire in the Black Sea, while the few German ships guarding the colonies in the Pacific Ocean were outmatched by the larger Japanese and Australian fleets; the Indian Ocean and the waters off South America were also the scene of clashes between German privateers and Allied cruiser squadrons sent to hunt them down. Finally, the Atlantic Ocean was the theater of the first major submarine campaign in history, with German U-Boats engaged against commercial traffic heading towards the British Isles and intent on confronting the joint forces of the United Kingdom and (after 1917) the United States.

"Gemini" is remarkable, the rest is good as a soundtrack while you destroy your house.
