Bravo Cappio al Pollo, no matter how much of a Beatlemaniac you are, Pet Sounds remains superior to any work by the Beatles :P

I only say that when I mention the Beach Boys, my generation bursts out laughing and pretends to be on a surfboard, bhà adda v'nì baffon'.

"The problem is that the Beatles proved they could do everything. Everything and well." For me, for most of their career, they made the usual three-and-a-half-minute songs. Then, to each his own; the fact is that the only one who, in my opinion, really managed to do everything was Zappa. He did Jazz, Classical, Rock, Blues (all the main genres of the 20th century).

"But no Cappio, it’s just Felo trying to act like a know-it-all and promote the Beach Boys, who he thinks are 'underappreciated.' Let me correct you, underappreciated."

Teenagelobotomy, thanks for the wise words, but the fact is that it really gets on my nerves to hear people say that the Beach Boys made surf songs when they were actually one of the best vocal groups, perhaps on par with the Four Freshmen.

“Wilson said he completely lost confidence in himself as a composer right then.” WTF????

Alfredo, I’ll explain it to you right away, because Sgt. Pepper sold 94832939084209842'84'28438708429832 084320 million copies, Pet Sounds, I bought it, then we got copies for McCartney's kids, the one by McCartney, and then I gave it as a Christmas gift to a friend of mine.

But in fact Sgt. Pepper is one of the few works I enjoy by the Beatles; I never said it's a terrible album. "The Beatles were absolutely great musicians and amazing songwriters" come on, please!

Dear Fedezan, maybe it's my age that forces me to shoot nonsense so quickly. You could take the bass away from McCartney and give him a cup of tea, instead give a bass to Wilson instead of the surf, and prevent McCartney from copying his lines and riffs. ;D

No, like, I don’t rely on what Wikipedia says, since I don't see anything of Rubber Soul in Pet Sounds. Really, there are people convinced that Pet Sounds has anything in common with Rubber Soul? Crazy!! Rubber Soul will never have the barking of Brian Wilson's dog!

"I wasn't prepared for that unity. It seemed like everything fit together well. Rubber Soul was a collection of songs... that somehow went together like in no album ever produced, and I was very surprised. I said, 'Here. Now I’ve really been pushed to make a great album.'"
Okay, Wilson liked it, but Pet Sounds has nothing of Rubber Soul, like unusual sounds, etc... As any human being with hearing could notice, Pet Sounds >>>>>>>>>> Rubber Soul.

To quote McCartney: "It was Pet Sounds that grounded me. I love that album. I just bought one for each of my kids for their education... I believe no one is musically educated until they’ve listened to that album. I love the orchestra, the arrangements... it might be an exaggeration to say it's the classic of the century... but, for me, it's definitely a classic that is unmatched in many ways... I’ve often listened to Pet Sounds and then cried. I played it so many times for John [Lennon] that it would have been hard for him to escape its influence... It was the album of its time. The thing that really made me sit down and take notes were the bass lines... and also, giving a melody to the bass lines. I believe that’s the big influence it had on me when we recorded Pepper. [...] God Only Knows is one of my favorites... very passionate, it has always left me speechless. And in You Still Believe in Me, I love that melody, really... it’s my favorite, I think... it’s so beautiful towards the end... it sways in these harmonies with many variations... it gives me chills."

PS: I don’t feel pretentious at all :)

I read in the comments, "Scaruffi forgets that 'Sgt. Pepper' is one of the most innovative albums of the sixties." Sgt. Pepper is the poor man's version of Pet Sounds, well, these Beatles fans who laugh at the name of the Beach Boys, your idols imitated their entire career, with the difference that Sir Paul McCartney wasn't capable of the vocal harmonies of Mr. Brian Wilson and that the Beatles never wrote a melody like Caroline No. Despite their three-and-a-half-minute songs being excessively praised by the public, you must remember that your dear Paul attempted several times to imitate the sounds achieved in songs like God Only Knows (which he deemed the most beautiful love song ever written, and also his absolute favorite, from his favorite album), and that before writing "Give the Beach Boys a surf and let them be happy," think! (Dear Fedezan, I'm referring to something that happened a few days ago :D)
