Meat Puppets Up On The Sun

To be honest, I’ve always appreciated them, but I've always been annoyed by the total vocal incapacity of the singer, which in my opinion completely ruins what should be their masterpiece, namely Meat Puppets II. On this, it’s a bit less merciful. Honestly, I believe that the absence of even a minimal commercial recognition is largely due to this big shortcoming. Many will argue that the concept of knowing how to sing is relative... that’s true. I like the "voice" of David Yow from the Jesus Lizard, for example, but where that is convincing and coherent with the type of music, this ruins otherwise beautiful melodies and vocal lines (their most famous songs in the original versions are unlistenable in my opinion). The same vocal incapacity is quite evident in their live performances. Just take a look on YouTube to believe it.

great debut of a tremendous group. even those who criticize nirvana for stupidly considering them a "commercial band" perhaps do not realize their great importance... maybe not so much on a strictly stylistic level, given that they have created a certainly personal and convincing summation of various influences without actually inventing anything revolutionary, but on a cultural level: very few other bands have managed to teach the language of the melvins and many others to a rock audience with more mainstream tastes.

It's true... perhaps the masterpieces on par with "il vile," "catartica," or "hai paura del buio?" have never been produced by the good Palazzo, but it must be said that his albums have never been less than good and that the latest one, il fiore dell'agave, is truly excellent, although not a masterpiece.
Afterhours I milanesi ammazzano il sabato

surely their least inspired album...but there are some good things (e.g. the title track and a few moments in the washing machine, to name a couple) along with some missteps (revisiting Berlin, All the President's Men...). after all, it seems to me that there is still a desire to challenge themselves, even if in this case it has led to a commendable album but nothing more. 3-3 AND A HALF MAX

it may well be indebted to American noise rock, but in my opinion, it reinterprets those sounds in a non-passive way and integrates them with elements of the Italian musical tradition (to put it in the terms of cantautori). Not everything that is avant-garde is necessarily beautiful, and sometimes you just don’t feel like listening to avant-garde stuff just to be a pretentious intellectual snob. The album is magnificent (said by someone who literally adores the Jesus Lizard and has known them since before they released their first album).

for sure direct and "simple" music but that doesn't mean it's not enjoyable. Lyrics that I find valid and ironic (and self-ironic) at just the right point. Not all bands can make difficult records like Ozma by the Melvins (thankfully, since it annoys the hell out of me).
