To say it's brief is an understatement.

But we’re not talking about plagiarism. Inspiration is the right term. In fact, it would be more accurate to say lack of inspiration. Or lack of the right sources of inspiration. It just comes down to making a choice.

Here, for instance, the Probot made me shit. The idea is nice, though. Franci, how would you define "Songs For The Deaf"?

If we want to put it that way, I would tend to evaluate the album PRODUCED by Homme better than the one PLAYED by Homme. I mean, for those other guys, I had no expectations (nor will I in the future), and they at least went beyond the tum-cha of the first two albums (yes, I’ve listened to both). But these guys, as pointed out by puntinicaz, draw inspiration from the new blood. Which, for people who have been around in the music world for a while, or extra a while like Jones, seems quite degrading. They could at least follow some good newcomers.

I agree with you on this. Although I must say that I never had high expectations for this work. We're still talking about someone who hasn't put out a proper riff in years (Josh Homme; 2003) and a musician whose artistic relevance - despite being a good songwriter and a good drummer, certainly - is quite dubious (Dave Grohl; Foo Fighters; 5-6 GOOD TRACKS - not albums - in how many years of career?). With all due respect to Jones, I don’t think he can save the fate of an album. In fact, from what I've heard, the best thing is "Scumbag Blues." And seriously, tracks like that can be found on the latest Arctic Monkeys. For Shrinebuilder, the expectations were different, but damn, it's a Doom album that I could find anywhere. Anywhere!

Will it be the first of many? In any case, I've heard a bit here and there on YouTube, but it doesn't tell me much. Considering that even the previews of Shrinebuilder didn't blow me away, I think I can safely say that it's not really the year for "supergroups." For now, I'll pass, waiting to hear both of them in full.

Just thinking about what these jappo can come up with makes me anxious. I haven't listened to Japanoise and similar stuff for over a year, and maybe for now that's a good thing.

I would also recommend Russel's album with Birchville Cat Motel. Quite insane.

Nino, you described the album better than I did in the review in just a few words: "you fight to stay afloat." Big up!
