In my opinion, the definition of progressive metal has been more of a curse than a blessing for DT. In fact, many forget that the New Yorkers are essentially a Heavy Metal band, with influences and references to a certain prog spirit that has driven them to express themselves through very long and complex virtuosities and instrumental openings. Based on this, I believe that comparisons, or rather contrasts, with the big names of the '70s are misleading, not so much because of the quality of the proposals (I like both; I find both DT and Pink Floyd or Yes to be genius), but because they are very different from each other. In the proposal of "Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory" I see more of a kind of enrichment of the classic metallic sound, incorporating various elements but still always traceable to a Heavy approach, whereas in the prog wave there was a willingness to create a nearly universal music, capable of blending influences from classical music, jazz, fusion, in short, an experimental sonic melting pot. In conclusion, I believe that DT is a very valid and important band in the Metal scene, capable of bringing many people closer to this genre (with them, the stereotype of the metalhead = satanist, fool, and frustrated person doesn't quite stick!) and in my humble opinion, they should be judged in a strictly metallic context, taking the term progressive with a pinch of salt and always in reference to the world of heavy metal. P.S. Of course, some bands were playing prog even before DT (who said Queensryche?), but the fact that Petrucci & co.'s group is credited as the progenitor of "Progressive Metal" derives precisely from their having canonized the style, that is: long and intricate songs, influenced by various metal currents and especially rich in virtuosity. Hi everyone and have a good evening :-D

The review is well written and balanced, but I would like to make a small note, if I may: discussing the DT on this site (and elsewhere, the situation isn't much better, indeed) in a somewhat serious manner is already a Herculean task (between die-hard fans, for whom finding even a single flaw in a Petrucci & Co album is equivalent to committing sacrilege, and detractors who criticize regardless, simply seeing the name is enough), so, in my humble opinion, it would have been better to wait until the album was officially in stores to review it. I repeat, this is just my opinion, which doesn't change the fact that the review is well done. Hi everyone and good evening :)

The album is a masterpiece, epic, powerful, melodic, and dreamy; I loved it and I continue to love it! As for your preamble, I can say one thing: the blame for the divisions shouldn't be placed on the labels (they're useful during the review phase to give someone a general idea of what we're talking about, to better guide the reader) but rather on simple human stupidity, that's it! If you listen to this, you can't listen to that, but who says so? You can't kill, you can't steal, you can't discriminate against someone for their skin or gender, these are things you can't do! Listening to Slayer while simultaneously enjoying Stratovarius? Yes, you can do that! Being a fan of King Crimson and then having a Linkin Park album in your collection? Yes, you can do that! Loving Agalloch and then listening to, I don't know, Paramore? Yes, you can do that! The problem isn't whether an album is prog, rock, thrash, death, black, or pop; the core issue relates to the mental gymnastics people do and the fake pedestals they build for themselves just because they believe they listen to "real" music and promote "real" art. Greetings to all and have a nice evening :-) P.S. I don't rate the review because honestly, you didn't talk much about the album, but it's well written, I admit that!

Compared to the first reviews, much better, although I recommend more attention (another apostrophe is not really a pleasant sight!). As for Ligabue, I can only advise you to break free from that vicious circle of Vasco and Liga; there’s a lot of beautiful and exciting classic rock out there, not necessarily brainy or extremely alternative, but powerful, catchy, and easy to listen to. The internet is a great tool for knowledge and you can discover so many bands that we could only dream of years ago! Back then, if you were looking for a band online (when we were at the dawn of the web), you might find a snippet on some lost page, organized in a way that saying it was pathetic would be a compliment! Now there are MySpaces, streaming tracks, etc., so no more excuses: there are alternatives to the flatness, you just have to find them! Hello everyone and have a good evening.

About the prejudice regarding those who sell = I’m tired of talking about it; nothing will ever change, and in the end, that's fine too. Everyone listens to what they like, and if a way to judge a band is to see if they sell little, then let them all do as they please. After all, the advocates of "anti-commercial" say that the less a group is in the spotlight, the less it’s influenced by trends and the more it produces good music, while the opposing side argues that if a band is followed by three people (including relatives), it probably means they suck. Who's right, I don't know (and to be honest, I couldn't care less!) One thing is certain: some realities are pathetic regardless of how much they earn. The underground is not 'pure good,' and the majors are not the 'source of all evil,' as the reverse is obviously false. For me, people should overthink less and just listen to music with their hearts; the heart doesn’t care about sales or what’s considered cooler or more 'alternative.' Hello everyone, and have a good day :-) P.S. I won't comment on Elton John; in fact, I don't like him at all!

This is one of the great classics of worldwide Metal, with fast rhythms alternating with slow and evocative parts, anger and violence perfectly blended, and above all a mature and recognizable style. I didn't like the review for the usual track-by-track format, but in the end, I notice an improvement and it's only fair to take that into account. Hello everyone and have a good day :-)

Thank you for reading the review and for the rating you gave it. In the adventure genre, I would say that Cussler fully satisfies my thirst for exoticism and lightness; in fact, he constructs well-architected stories with likable characters to whom I immediately became attached. As for my stopping writing, I wouldn't know what to say; I'm going through a bit of a strange period and I'm not sure if my writings are as objective as they used to be. Anyway, I thank you again for the comment and the rating. Good night to you and the other visitors (if there will be any) of this page :-)

It is well known that in Italy, musical tastes are used to elevate oneself to some kind of connoisseur of absolute truths, just as it is even more widely recognized that as soon as an album sells more than one copy, it is labeled as commercial by the supreme masters of musical science. However, your first three lines do not place you in a different light; quite the opposite! I do not appreciate Lady Gaga, and I have no intention of getting a new brain implant to understand "her historic significance"! But when will it be understood that music serves to unite, to relax, to make one dream, not to say, "I listen to this and I'm better than you, nyah nyah nyah"? Well, I’ve pretty much given up on trying to understand, or maybe I just don't care anymore. Hello everyone, and have a good day!

I come to this review of mine with a guilty delay, and first of all, I thank the users who came to visit it and expressed their opinion, which, although differing from mine, is always welcomed and respected by me. Have a great day everyone :-D
