Elvis is indisputable! Indisputable not from an artistic standpoint—de gustibus non disputandum est—but from a historical perspective. You can come and tell me he was a mediocre singer (I don’t agree, but I can accept it), but that he was just there to exalt the unfortunate of good family... If it hadn't been for Elvis, there wouldn't have been rock'n'roll because, even though the genre was invented by black artists (Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Richard Berry, and company), it would have never reached the wider white audience without an intermediary like Elvis.
I would also add that, personally, I consider Elvis a great interpreter, and he certainly wasn't mediocre just because he didn't write his own songs. And what about Mina then? Is she just the first lucky find on the street? Come on...
